Cloning Autos

Not sure where I read it, but is it true you shouldn't clone autos because you will hurt their growth? Does that mean we should only clone non autos? Maybe this was for just a super short variety? Thanks for your replies.

By the time you clone an auto and get it to root it's life cycle is pretty much over.
I've got them to root, but only pulled a gram.

You "can" clone autos (ie cuttings taken from one will root), but you "shouldn't" do it, because it won't accomplish anything positive for you.

You can't maintain autoflowering clones in vegetative mode, and you can't maintain a "mother" plant to keep taking clones from.

So you can't grow the clones into large plants, and you can't maintain the plant genetics indefinitely, both of which are the main points of cloning. Both the autoflower clones and the mother will be done flowering at the same time, and then they'll die.

Bottom line is, instead of ending up with one mother plant, and several clones that can be turned into full-sized full plants on their own, you'll end up with a stunted mother and clones and the final yield will be less than if you just left the original plant alone.

If u clone it and keep it under 24 hrs of light it wont bud. Certian strains at least
Well, there are certain "fast" strains that can flower under as little as 6 or 7 hours of darkness that you can maintain in vegetative state if you keep them under more than 18 hours of light per day.

Some of these strains are called "autoflowering", because in reality in most of North America or Europe they'll flower automatically outdoors no matter what time of year you put them out.

These strains (Dr. Greenthumb's "Iranian Autoflower" is one) can be maintained as mother plants and clones can be maintained.

But these aren't the same as the "true" autoflowering strains, that will flower under ANY light pattern.

Something like the original Lowryder, or others will flower even under 24 hours of light, and for practical purposes, it doesn't pay to try and clone these.

Not so sure about this. Everytime I have ran an auto it is kept under 24/0 light cycle and it buds.
No shit cuz u kept it under 24hrs.. Wat i jus said..
umm, didn't you say it won't flower under 24 hours of light, at least certain strains??

and jogro, i'm sure you already know this, but the reason why dr greenthumbs iranian is different to true auto's is because it doesn't contain any ruderalis genetics in it.. :D

Get the afgan auto or the iranian auto. They r the best in potency and u can clone them.. Retarded ass ppl give shitty advice

This comes down to a semantics question. What's an "autoflower"?

Anyway, yes I know that Greenthumbs "Iranian autoflower" isn't a ruderalis based plant. I just didn't want to confuse my comment with too much genetics based info. See here on some earlier thoughts I had on this particular plant:

Since that last post of mine six months ago, apparently, more than one source is now claiming that this "Iranian" plant actually does have Persian indica genetics. So maybe that part of it is true.

autoflowering means it flowers regardless of what you do and regardless of the light cycle

yes you can clone it and the clone will flower itself to an early grave , there wont be any point , left on the mother plant it would have produced more , expect the clone which will of course still finish at the same time as mother to make around 1 gram of nothingness , in other words its pointless , autos need to be grown from seed

now semiautoflowers are something else , they are plants that when exposed to certain environmental conditions flower out , this can be light cycles bellow 24 hrs , food issues , root bound issues and even bugs , if a plant can be kept in veg indoors but flowers if exposed to natural light cycles ( 16.5 hrs ideally ) then this is a semiauto , clones can be taken and as long as you dont stress the life out of them ( the cloning process may force them to flower alone mind ) then you can take clones and pop them outdoors whenever you like knowing they will simply flower

as for iranian , nowt special being honest , theres phenos of ak47 cherry that auto along with afg and vrs others , mikado is another good contender for a plant that flowers regardless , the closest match i ever grew in size to a lowryder or a cross of lowryder was fast blast , this year i will be planting out around 40-50 semi autos from gurillas gold to danish to sweet105 etc etc , all will be vegged indoors and flower once dropped outdoors

Mikado is NOT an auto-flower strain under any circumstances!
