Clone was found drunk this morning. Could use some advice.

Hey guys

Brand new to cloning. I'm currently mainlining my girls and I've decided to attempt to take the top of my plant and try to clone it. Here's what I've done:

1.Soaked Rockwool in 5.5 ph + Bloom nutrients totaling 200ppm for 1 hour
2.Shook out excess water (tennis arm) of Rockwool
3.Topped at 3rd node, cut at 45' deg angle with a clean razor
4.Sliced underneath upwards to promote root growth, stuck in clonex for 5 minutes then into its cube
5. Cut leaves appropiately
6.Placed Rockwool in a clone dome filled with perlite at the bottom to encourage moisture. Placed dome on top.
Left over night under a 200watt LED (to the side, not directly under) next to rest of my plants
Temps range from 75-81, never higher or lower

Lights just came back on and I see her laying there drunk on the floor. Classy! Decided to add a bit of support (incase shes too heavy?) with another tagger.

Anything else I should do? I understand shes under a lot of shock and it will take time to recover, but if I went wrong somewhere it'd be great to know and find out so I can rectify the problem ASAP. I am not in a state of panic, I am just looking for educational responses if I went wrong somewhere and how I can correct it (now) or in the future.

Thanks many muchos! :)

All the leaves needs to be cut off except top set of leaves. Cut them in half. You have to much weight on stem
Is this the right areas to snip for this particular top? (I circled them in blue)? If not, can you clarify? Thanks again

What's your RH? I had clones fall over like that before and it has been either because the humidity is too low or the rw/rapid rooter got dry.

Humidity dome and quick spray would fix it I'll bet

Its in a dome already with some water sprayed on the plastic . Plug is still moist, not wet as I know they dont like "wet". I'd say humidity is 90% +.

Anzo is right on here, you gotta remember the plant doesn't really "know" it's cut, and each of those leaves needs water, and the stem is a big one too, meaning more chance for the water to not transpire up the stem. Also means that the cutting would need more spraying too.
I have horrible luck on cloning tops of plants, I always get the short 3-4 inch ones underneath, they are smaller and usually have multiple nodes to submerge.

I would advise to follow anzo's lead, and take most of those leaves off, but honestly, I would be surprised if that one makes it.... Sorry brother.
Get the shorter ones next time, and make sure to trim the leaves to about 50% of their size and take all but two or four sets off.
Much easier

No problem man. Thanks a lot for responding. Can you check my updated pic in the next post down for future reference as to where to properly cut a top if its too long? I don't want to cut in the wrong place. Do all 4 circles (4 major fan leaves) in this particular case come off? I see some new ones growing in so I assume yes. If I'm completely wrong I'd love to know so I can avoid this mistake in the future and leave the 2 bigger ones there.

Also, a semi edit here:

I'm mainlining my plants. So it requires my plant to have 6 nodes before I actual top it down to 3. I cut this one at the third node as required. How do you recommend integrating mainlining with this cloning technique for tops? This was cut at exactly 6 nodes, so it may be harder to get a shorter top, unless you mean to just cut this particular clone in the area inbetween the circles to make it shorter overall.

Cheers.

yea, you got it, but like I said I do have problems getting cuts with larger stems to take up water, since it's hollow it doesn't work as well as the shorter ones do, their stems are a lil more "woody" and take up water easier.
I don't do anything special to encourage them, I just don't trim down my plants when I grow them
the best cuts for clones are the short little guys that are way down near the soil.
In my experience anyways.

Ok excellent. This is what they look like now after cutting all of that excess stuff out. I am going to ride this adventure just for fun. If you can't have fun then whats the point right? This is how it should look given the unfortunate circumstances still? All major fan leaves are off now (minus the new growth) but the rockwool is soaked with bloom nutrients.

yeah, that's better, I like to keep my lower growing points on as well, sometimes the cutting will root, and for some reason NOT grow out of the top parts, but rather a lower growing node, so I like to keep those little tiny growing points still alive.
Plus it also encourages the cutting to be a lil more squatty if/when it roots

Lol! Sweet thanks dude. I'm going to try and keep this gal alive (in b4 RIP) and see what happens over the next week. Worst comes to worst its a learning experience and I appreciate all the help you've given. I have a feeling taking clones normally is so much easier.

I have a differing opinion. Large clones like you had done can be fine as long as its humid enough. It doesnt matter about the stem being hollow because the water isnt moving up the stem (theres no roots), its in contact with the moist plug and the leaves absorb water from the air.

Like someone mentioned before, it looks like the air maybe had been dry..I know you said the dome was sprayed, but is it fogging up on its own? That is the way to tell whether it is humid enough inside.

Hmm good call. It does not "fog" up on its own, but does retain moisture on the lid itself.

you need a direct connection of the stem to the water...It's like a rose in a glass of water man...
either rockwool or root plug
or you need a sprayer spraying the stems....
The leaves keep it alive but the roots don't grow out of the leaves, its the STEM. and no water there.... = dead cutting.

LED is way too strong for clones, get a weak cfl at about 4000K
Even at 200 true watts off to the side? I have a SolarStorm 440w (not actual). They are 36 inch from canopy atm. I have a veg tent and dedicated flower room as well so I was hoping I could just stick them in the veg tent at a proper adjustable height. No biggie if not.
