Clone Room Question...

So I have had multiple successes with 2 - 60 spot aerocloners I built, but recently the stems have been getting slimy looking, they'll root but wont grow too long and eventually die. Being that its not winter anymore I have a feeling it might have something to do with temperature, whether in the room or in the cloner.


What are ideal temps? Room temp is between 76 and 80, but its sealed room with co2. Not too sure of water temp but pretty sure its around 76f, pump is currently running 24/7. Is this good? Should I cycle the pump (whats best cycle)?

Also how much air do they need? Is an intake from flower room containing co2 good enough?

As we approach summer need to these clones to survive bc not plants without clones lol..

Typically clones root faster with warm 85 degree temperatures.

Cycle the pump for 5 minutes every 15 minutes.

Your air is fine.

I thought higher temps will cause faster rooting, but I like to leave them until roots are 5-6 inches, and the higher temps seem to rot stem. Also with air intake is fine with no exhaust? Bc its sealed I'm guessing.

Thanks would 15 min on 15 off work or do I have to buy a recycle timer?

Also know its not totally related, but I've read your lb every 3 weeks guide so I know you're the man to ask. How do I sterilize? dump and put water mixed with 3% hydrogen peroxide and run it thru? Same for cleaning nutrient rez (water mixed with h2o2)?

A recycle timer is a very handy tool to have when doing aero, its makes a big difference in control abilities. I wash everything in the shower with bleach water when I do it.

Yeah I'm gonna get one off ebay but for the next week or 2 will 15 on 15 off work?

Also best color rubbermaid tote? They all seem to let light in and seemed like may have had some algae build up in last cloner I built

ok heres what you need to do. empty cloner and whipe out, fill up with plain tap water and put in 2 cup bleach and run 20 minutes. empty out and refill with plain tap water and run 20 minutes. empty and fill with plain tap water. Now add your chlorine product either go buy some clear rez by ez cloner or pool shock and go over to icmag and get ratio for pool shock. Chlorine is the key to keeping the slime away.

Pump can run 24/7. You say your getting roots so keep system as is just keep it clean. I clean with bleach every other week but some do it every 5 days.

I have two Turbo Kloners and I run them 24/7. I have a recycle timer, but no longer use it. Agree with booms above...pool shock is the answer and once I started using it, the slime problems were gone for good. Mix 1 tsp of shock with 1 gallon of RO or distilled water (if you don't have RO, just by a gallon of distilled and put the shock in that container). You have to shake it pretty good for a while to get it to dissolve. Keep this container in a dark place or in a paper sack as the light from your room can cause the chlorine to dissipate. Add 30ml per gallon of this mixture to your cloner every 5 days (eg 120ml to a 4 gallon cloner). Keep in mind that the chlorine will evaporate off, so you're not increasing the chlorine every 5 days....you're replenishing it. I've successfully rooted with just plain RO water, RO water and Liquid Karma (I don't recommend this as it can clog sprayers over time), and RO water with Botanicare Pro Grow. However, the best recipe I've found and use to this day is Koma's recipe of Cutting Edge Solutions Micro and Bloom. 5ml/gallon Micro & 15ml/gallon Bloom and keep Ph 5.8 - 6.0. Fastest rooting I've seen. Sometimes I will do a water change once or twice, but I've also run without water changes. DO NOT use Super Thrive.

Here's the pool shock product (get the regular, not super...the 1 lb. pack will be a lifetime supply) IT's available at Walmart, Depot, Ace, or any pool supply store: http://www.hthpools.com/PoolCare/Products/shock.htm

The problem that people have with cloners is that the pump warms the water and creates an environment that is prone to bacteria and fungus development. However, with the shock, you can benefit from these warmer temps as it will make your clones root and grow more quickly. I typically get roots in 9 - 12 days and they are ready to go in 14 - 18 days (with roots 2 - 4 inches long).

The best totes are the yellow lid/black base tuff boxes from Lowes, Walmart, HD. Much stronger also. There is really no need for such extremes on cleaning, a simple bleach wash is just as effective. I spend no more than a few minutes cleaning mine.

on a side note: people worry far too much about roots staying in the dark, imo. I've messed around and let roots grow 2 feet long in T5 lightning in ebb/flood tray, fully exposed to light (with organic nutes) and the plants behave wonderfully. I've taken those 2 foot roots, chopped them back to my net pots and thrown them into a DWC system and, rather than suffer transplant shock, they erupt with new root and foliage growth.

Is it 30ml per gallon? Read the icmag post and it says 1 gram of shock (1/4 tsp) and 1oz (30ml) per 5 gallons. Based on this your recommendation seems like a lot of shock. Am I missing something?

looks like every body clones a lot different then me . because any thing in hydro we all know the water needs to be under 75 f or you get those SLIMMY nasty stems. and the plant will end up dead. this guys plants are slimy . and sure has that nasty root rotting smell to them. they will never root. guys do what works best for your set up. but in a cloner you need they temps from 60 to 75 f no hotter . or the plants dye . and run that water pump 24/7 do put it on a timer . that's stupid. if your talking a cloner just for clones like a easy cloner. the pump needs to run 24/7 and your light cycle can be 24/7 or 18 . most people used 24. but it wont make any difference .

Temps are important but what is most important in cloners is using CHLORINE...Can run at 90f with chlorine added every 5 days if you wanted with NO slime, not that i recommend 90f more like 70-75f what i like to see.

Running a pump 24/7 in aero is a complete waste of energy and much added heat to the res. It is a huge waste. And youcan't get root rot if there are no roots. My cloner is on its second batch of cuttings with the same water straight from the tap three weeks ago, no additives, no temp control, and some have already rooted in 5-6 days

is your tap water City water? remember nobodys got the same water or the same ambient tempatures for there cloner. Some need to run pump 24/7 just to achieve the right temp in cloner.

Yes, city tap water, straight in to res. My cloner sits on concrete floor, in basement, all year long. I dont even check water temp any more,, after the first year or so it gets old

City water has Chlorine added to it bro. Most people that get slime in there cloners are using well water or just bad water source, you got good water for cloner obviously. I have mine in basement to and temps only get to 75f in my Res running pump 24/7. I have a Ez-Clone 16 that i use most of the time.
