Clone Only Strains

So i was looking at seeds, which I do, and I was just noticing that cali connection and green house seeds claims to have chemdog. I thought that chemdog was a clone only strain...
I don't know for sure tho so don't slam me to hard if my question is retarded.
Also, isn't og kush a clone only strain also? Reserva/dna has it thought..
how does that work exactly? I'm guessing top breeders pay big money for clones of those strains right, and that's how they sell them?
..but wouldn't the strain lose some of it's original qualities through making seeds for it? Cause clone only plants are usually female right?

Do people buy males too? I would imagine that the males are worth a lot more than the females...but idk...:dunce:

Great question but if yer waiting for a "breeder"to come answer you yer gonna be waiting a long fucking time.
Mainly because the answer is....................it's all a scam.
Most of them know each other, most trade cuts and beans regularly especially when they're first starting out.
Yer best bets to take yer best plants and let them make seeds, then trade'em with yer buddies.........because really that's what yer paying for when you buy beans.

what they'll do is they'll take the original clone, breed it with a closely related male, then the subsequent seeds they will take, clone the females, flower them out, pick the one that acts the most like the original clone you started with, breed that, repeat over and over until they have the original back.

Ok, I always wondered. this so I'm going to ask it

If you have a clone only strain, and you hermie it or something, and it self pollenates.... and you plant the resulting seeds, what happens?

Super unstable genetics, what?

they're more likely to hermie... I prefer taking relative genetics and breeding with that, then taking the subsequent offspring and find the ones that look the /most/ like the strain you're trying to get back (the more complex method is what I described above.)

i don't recommend using hermaphrodites to perpetuate a strain, you're better off finding a relative strain to use as a carrier.

Hmm, yes I see. But the genetics would still be reflected in the hemied seeds yes?

Interesting ;)

yeah there's no reason they wouldn't be.. the reason I see hermie as more problematic as a carrier strain is that the hermie part actually changes the female part of the plant, whereas using a separate male will only affect the male part for the most part, the same clone part in the female version is in tact in a pheno somewhere, it's only a matter of finding it...

but I guess both methods can have equal success.

I think seed companies bullshit a lot, and one has to be careful with doing business with them.

Headband is a clone only strain, too.

Damn, I figured. Yeah I heard that about the UK Cheese or "Exodus"Cheese. And that's another damn thing. I'm just finding out that some strains are just different phenosof already established strains! Like Cheese i guess is a cut from skunk#1. I can't think of anymore offhand but there's a lot!
I didn't know headband was a clone only strain either...see..it's all bullshit. Like in my opinion, I think the only way you'll ever truly try a strain that stared out as clone onle, is to know the person who found it..

And since were flexing our clone only strain knowledge, Green Crack is a bomb clone only strain.

meh clone only strains are lame as hell imo... when you get a dank strain with seeds... the potential never ends... with clones, you only have that one pheno, one potential...

I've noticed some breeders will take a clone-only strain, cross it with OG Kush and then call it by its original name plus OG. Seems like everyone wants to breed OG Kush into the mix, or at least say they did.

I can't prove this, but reading the background material that breeders provide, I get the impression they are sometimes trying to "reverse engineer" by starting out with a clone and crossing it with similar males, like the process Poplars described above.

One of my favorite strains from LA County is Poison OG. No seed company is claiming to sell it, but Rare Dankness crossed it with one of their house strains and named it Venom. I'd like to try that some time.

I can't clone my penis (believe me, I've tried), but it certainly makes a LOT of seeds. I germinated one in my ex-wife. Turned out to be a nice pheno, but it is a LOT more maintenance than I originally anticipated...
