Chronic Pain from MD looking for doctor

Hi everyone

I'm from Mississauga and I suffer from a type of Muscular Dystrophy (MD) as a result I have chronic pain on my foot and wrist most of the time. I've been vaporizing MJ for several years to ease my pain.
I just found out recently (my roommate has similar condition and was approved for MMAR) that I can apply for MMAR due to my condition.

I met my family doctor who flat out refused to sign my application stating that he never prescribed one and will not ever be comfortable with prescribing a medicinal MJ.
I've been visiting other doctors and multiple walk in clinics and denied for the same reason.
I carried the write up report from a specialist that diagnosed me with MD as a proof to all the doctors I saw but none of them would budge.
My roommate received his license by paying his doctor $500...something that I cannot do at the moment

I am desperate to find a doctor now as I am having surgery in 2 mths and will not be able to walk for 3 mths, I am hoping to get aprooved so I can order my meds through mail.

If anyone can help me please email me at [email protected]

I also suffer from MD and i never thought MJ would of helped me this much, waking up in the morning and being able to move is a life changer. It doesnt really matter where you go these days most doctors are 100% anti MJ, unless you have something like cancer or aids(And even then, they dont want a dying person to have some joy and a chance of getting better).

There is a few different options you can do, the first is do what your friend did and scrape the $500 dollars together and get your license through a online clinic like DoNoharm or the many others. They do charge alot of money but they dont get any money from the government for signing these forums and once you're known for signing MMJ papers im sure the doctors loose a lot of potential patients that the government would pay the doctor to see. Not to mention that they only charge you once per year (Some have renewal fee's at half cost).

Second option which you should pursue while you save the money up is to print off as much information you can on the good of MJ using credible sources (No wiki) from other legal doctors and studies. Take two-four weeks off from smoking and write a daily diary of how you feel, what changed today from the day before and what medications your taking because of not smoking, now do the same when you start smoking again also measuring your daily amount used. Doing a daily diary and taking a tolerance break is a great thing to do because it shows your not addicted to it. Also tell the doctors you are vaporizing and using edibles/extracts (I think BC is only province legal for extracts so look into that so you arnt telling the doctor youll break the law by making brownies). If you can find a pro MMJ doctor that isnt very public talk to a doctor that denies you and say "Well if you feel that you are not well-informed and the good of MMJ would you mind referring me to a doctor (or the doctor you want) that is". No matter what, they are obligated to help you and you will have to push that till they cave.

If you are going to be having pain after surgery and they give you pain killers then keep going back and tell them the pain is bad and you need something stronger. Show that you have tried the harsh meds and that MJ is the only thing that helps.

Best of luck,

I can't afford $500 for the prescription note....yearly....

I've visited ~10 walk in clinics / general practitioner so far and I heard the same stories from them (they have no experience about medicinal marihuana therefore they are not comfortable prescribing it).

I got so excited today when I saw this list http://johnturmel.com/doctors.htm. I called all the doctors in GTA and almost all of them either no longer accepting new patients or stated on their VM that they are no longer prescribing MMAR, except for 2 doctors in Oakville (Oakville, Dr. Samy Beshay
Oakville, Dr. Amany Makar )

I met Dr. Beshay today and he told me that he never prescribed MMAR before and was confused on why his name is listed on the website. And Dr Makar is her wife.

So the frustration and the journey continued.....

Not to sound rude but if you cant afford the $500 (its 300-400 from what ive seen with half that for renewal) then why even try to get your license? a 6-10plant setup is going to run you $700-$1000 within a year(electric inc). You could get a DG but most are going to make you pay $5-$10/gram unless you have a very high gram/day and those who take you and dont make you pay may be selling on the side (lets not start a discussion on the +/- of selling on the side).

You need to really look at how MMJ is viewed on by all and not just yourself because thats how doctors see it. Sure you get a few doctors who are very pro MJ but they dont last long after handing out a few thousand scripts and everyone knowing their name, the ones who do and continue to give out scripts dont want others to know that they do, many doctors look down on those who do write for MMJ. The doctors you named probably do give out scripts but said they didnt becuase you brought it up too straight forward and they fear something being made public. You need to go through the motions with them and see them a few times, talk to them about how "this" or "that" didnt work for your condition and if there is anything else you can try. Even if they are a pro MMJ doctor bring papers with you on the benefits of MJ and vaporization and edibles and how you wont be smoking. You need to understand no doctor is just going to say "Oh you want to smoke MJ? Here you go smoke yourself out"

Also naming doctors on a public forum for MMJ isnt something i would do personally. It also doesnt help your case looking for doctors becuase people who do have a doctors name would probably be less likely to share it if that makes sense.

Just my 2 cents.

So its $500 on top of the $700-1000 grow cost (50%+ of the growing budget). And every year its $250 (25%+ of the grow budget) to renew....Its not just that I can't afford it, I also refused to contribute into this abused system by both sides. Why should I pay $500 for medicine that I need and legally should be able to obtain. Anyways I might be singing a different tune if I end up not finding any "compassionate" doctor.

Actually I obtained those list from another public MMJ forum, and I don't just come in demanding for them to sign my MMJ card.
I brought all of my diagnostic papers and explained my condition thoroughly before I ask them if they can sign my paper. So far I keep hearing the different tunes but essentially the same song "I have no experience in prescribing MMJ hence I have no idea what/how much to prescribe"

So after alot of leg works and hundreds of paper work I finally had my family physician to sign my B2 form, although he only signed it for 2 mths for now as he said he is unsure that I will be approved as he is not a specialist. He said I can
I plan to cultivate my own crops, would the 2 mths restriction be a problem for my application ? Should I re-apply for cultivation once I get a longer term from my doctor ?

Im at a loss for this part but i didnt think they could put restrictions on it time wise, thought it was a full year at a time. If your planning on growing your own then yes 2 months isnt even close to enough becuase its going to take them a month to send it to you and 3months minimum to go through a full grow cycle.

On the b2 form there is a box where the doctor can recommend how many months the license is valid for if its not for a full 12 mths

Ah. I would go back to him and explain that growing your own costs around $30-$40 per ounce(Can be much less!) where as buying from a DG is $300 (No DG will take you for 2 months either i dont think) and that his time isnt enough to check into how MJ helps your condition. Now i dont know if he can resign another set of papers for say 6months and you resend it in? or if you have to wait for it to end and then resend it. Pharoah would be the one to ask, i think he knows the most about Canadian MMAR then anyone here.
