Chopping up my roots!!

Whats the craic,asked a queston earlier about transplanting from soil to hydro,when im removing the plants from the hydro tank,the roots are bound together like a matt of carpet,do i just cut them away or pull them away or wat?

If you must.. Use something sharp and clean. Scissors are probably your best option, and be sure to prune the plant back so the amount of roots that are left can support the foliage
