Roleadro / galaxy hydro led panel comparison

presentation

i have grown for a few years now, ive tried the mh/hps combo, also cfl in micro grows, ive wanted to try leds for a long time but they were just too expensive.
not that long ago galaxyhydro, also called roleadro released led panels that looked ok and had decent reviews and since they were cheap i decided to give them a try.

===================================================================================

gear

i have a bought a 300w led panel thats supposed to be full spectrum :

its real power consumption is around 140 watts

the other one is a 400w cob also full spectrum :

i have 2 stealthy cupboards to grow the plants in :

cupboard 1 ( 300w led panel, soil ) :
  • 70x40x70 cm ( sorry )
  • 3 roadrunners 1 from dinafem and 3 roadrunners 2 from dinafem ( 6 in total)
  • 6 litres plastic container
  • biobizz all mix
  • biobizz nutrients, grow and bloom but i am not using topmax.
  • small carbon filter and extractor
conditions :
  • temperature : 22-27 celsius
  • 20/24 light schedule ( recommended by breeder)
  • watering every 3 days

cupboard 2 ( 400w cob, dwc hydro ) :
  • 70x40x200 cm
  • 1 dinachem from dinafem
  • dwc bucket with 220 L/H air pump, dual output
  • plagron hydro nutrient line i used GH flora series for the first 2 weeks.
  • small carbon filter and extractor
conditions :
  • temperature : 22-28 celsius
  • 12/12 lighting schedule since 28th of april ( 10 days of grow in total)
  • ec : 1.4
  • ph 6.1
  • solution changer every 7 days

============================================================================

before starting the grow journal i want to talk quickly about those leds.

the 400w cob performs well, growing stage was vigourus, maybe a little less compared to a 400w mh but it might be genetics of the plant, also the internodes stayed quite tight.
the lamp is quite noisy to my taste, way less than a normal sized extractor but i would say it is loud as a noisy computer ( fan noise)
luckily you can very easily open the panel and wire the fans in series instead of parallel, this way they run at 6v and are very silent.
it doesnt get too hot, and the build quality is really good for this price, really... if someone wants some pictures of the inside i might put them sometime.

the 300w panel was also quite satisfatory, in growing stage, there was no excessive strech at all, the grow speed is similar to a high power cfl or small mh.
as for flowering i did an earlier session this year and i kept a few photos that i will post further down.
this panel vas quite noisy new, louder than the 400w cob, you could again wire the fans ins series , this way they get very quiet, as for me i wired a pc fan speed controller, i always set it quite low and the panel stays warm but not hot.
as for the 400w cob this panel is quite well built and really good for the price.

the biggest upside of those lamps are of course heat, they produce a little, the 300w is like a 125w cfl in terms of heat and the 400w cob like a 200w cfl, so perfectly manageable.

==============================================================================

here are a few pictures of lowryder 2 grown under the 300w led panel ( they were 2 weeks beofre harvest so not completely fat )

here is one of the plants after drying for 10 days :

IMG_3222.jpg

keep in mind that those are lowryders 2 dwarf plants, and grow organic so of course yield could be better, but i would roughly say that this panel is equivalent to a 250w hps.
the weed itself is very good, same quality as hps.

Grow journal

cupboard 1 :

seeds were germinated the 8th of april, and were placed in soil the 11th.
first 3 weeks of growing went well, i started feeding nutes when i saw the 1st pistils which was on the 28th.
everything is going smoothly except for one of the plants which suffered a little nitrogen deficiency.
they are now at 2-3 weeks of flowering.

what they look like today 21st of may

roadrunner 1 at 3 weeks of flower

i think the yellowing leaves are due to nitrogen defiency? any help is welcome :)

===================================================================

cupboard 2 :

- the dinachem seed was germinated the 8th of april and put in bucket the 11th.
everything went smoothly, grow was not too stretchy or too fast.
first 2 weeks i used GH flora series and follow K chart, with ec at 1 and ph 6.0
then switched to plagron hydro, ec 1.4 and ph at 5.7.

here are the pictures, they were taken 1 week appart :

here after 2 weeks of growing, i cut the apex, and switched to 12/12 just 3 days after because i was affraid of stretching which is always really big on hydro.

IMG_2816.jpg

here are some lowryders 2 that had to finish last week of flowering to makre room in the other cupboard

one week ago :

and this is what she looks like today, i think she will keep growing for 1 week bu not much more, there are already lots of pistils

Hey JRock,

Looks like a minor nitrogen deficiency to me. What kind of fertilizer are you using?

Looking forward to seeing the results. I'm growing with a galaxy hydro 300w right now and i'm liking the results so far at 2/3 weeks into flower. What sort of yield did you get off of it last time you grew with it?

Also, how far away from the tops of the plant did you keep the 300w Galaxy on your last grow? I'm wondering if I should be worried about light bleaching on mine

hey!
i dont know about yield, i dont have any scale sorry :( you can see the pictures of the lowryders 2 on my first post, i know its not very representative, but ive grown this strain with hps vbefore and i had the same resul with a 250w hpx, only differnece is flowering time is 1 week longer with led, and overall quality of weed seems to be a bit better since the temperatures were easily controlled.

as far as height is concerned i always ketp the lamp 20cm above, if i put it higher the plants didnt seem to respond as well, right now my small closet is very cramped and some of them are touching the led cover, they donc seem to mind too muche, but its far from ideal.

i will be launching a new session soon, with roadrunner 1's but this time in hydro, probably nft.

in soil im using biobizz, in hydro plagron, im not very good with soil :(

JRock,

No worries, I can get a pretty good idea based on the photos. Glad to hear that you have had the light at 20cm. I was worried that I might have it too close as I've run out of vertical space in my tent and the plants are still stretching, but it looks like you had did very well at that distance.

I'll stay tuned for your next session, but I can't say I've ever had any hydro experience... I always thought it sounded more complicated/expensive to setup than soil growing. What sort of issues have you run into with your soil grows? I haven't used Biobizz but it's a name I see around a lot, so it must be some pretty good stuff. I use General Organics Go Box nutrient regimen. It's a series of 8 seperate nutrients - seems like overkill but my friend just had good luck with it so I decided to give it a try. In the past I've used a combination of bat guano and Neptunes Harvest liquid nutes. Wasn't impressed, but they were used on other wise half assed grows, so I didn't really give the nutes a chance to impress.

biobizz is fine, i dont really like soil because theres too much geussing involved, even if with experience it gets easier, with hydro onec the water is ph'ed and the nutrient level is ok you can just sit back and relax for 10 days, if your system is tuned in the ph and nutrient concentration wont change too much, with soil its always more complicated, but i guess its a matter of taste.

i dont run into a lot of probems, its just that when you have a problem it can be much more different thingfs than in hydro, plus it takes a few days for a problem to appaear and a fex days to solve it, in hydro you just change your water and thats it, you lost maybe 2-3 days max.

as for nutrients, biobizz is very popular here in europe, theyre niot the best but they offer a tri pack with very little botteles which is plenty enough for me since i dont use siol that much, general organics is very good.
in the end you can only see differnces between nutrients if your other parametres are perfect, otherwis it wont change much.

as for bud quality, the differnces is very subtle, hydro is usually stronger, and the buds are denser, in soil i found that the buds were a bit more airy, but they smoke smoother as well.

people still say that soil grown weed is better, bla bla bla, its always the same in my opinion both are good, different but equal if you know what i mean :)

also i just started to germinate a seed og orange bud from dutch passion, she wil be vegging under a 125w cfl 6400 and i will then use the led panel so we can really see what its like with good conditions, it will also be a dwc grow, i will open a separate thread when the time comes

I've been looking at roleadro on Amazon but didn't trust their reviews good to see someone right here running one as I didn't have the balls to order one I was looking at the one that har 4 cobs in the square pattern like they took 2 of the one you're using & put them side by side but I'm thinking the one you're using would replace my 400 hps

hey!

yeah i was in the same situation but i decided to trust the review and bought 2 different models juste to have the pleasure to compare them :)

its my first grow with the cob and im really pleased with the result, i thought vegging was gonna be bad or stretchy under those leds but it was the total opposite, th internodal distance is really tight, tighter that some other grows i did with a 400w mh, it was a bit slower though.

The more I read, the more appealing hydro becomes. My current grow has been pretty trouble free, but I've had some grows in the past where I wished I could've just hit the reset button and cleared out the water reservoir. I'll keep an eye out for that one!

I have 2 of the roleadro 300w and 2 of the roleadro 400w cob. For the price these things have been amazing. Personally I like the 400w cobs better. It seems to have a much fuller spectrum. I'm using them for veg on their own with great results and to supplement a 1K HPS bulb in a flowering tent and I've been loving the results so far.

My room is 4'x6' the $239.00 800w. Cob I'm thinking would work over my waterfarm at that price I'm thinking I should take a chanceimage.jpeg

im very stasified with mine until now, and once again, you can veg them with it no problem as you can see!

its not that expensive , plus compared to a low power hps 250/400 its a better invetment on the long run, no bulbs to change and way less power usage, plus you dont have to buy powerful extracots, so in the end its not that much more expensive to begin with

Hey jrock your thread is moving along nice I tried to tell that guy trying to sell those eco sun lite led's that he needs to put together a thread like this but he just don't seem to get the idea of just an honest evaluation if his stuff is as good as he claims it would sell itself keep up the good work

yeah it sure is the best selling method , but id like to remind everyone that im not affiliated to galaxy hydro :)

ok so heres the weekly update, the cupboard with the roadrunners is definitely too cramped, the rr 1 are the perfect height but the rr 2 are too tall and theyre definitely not getting good light exposure so results wont be up to par with those, so ive decided to start a new grow, it will be some orange bud from dutch passion, she will be vegged under a 125w cfl, and as soon as the roadrunners are done i will use the led pannel which should be just around when she starts blooming.

roarunner 1 is supposed to be en enhanced version of the lowryder 2, until now i can say that theyre pretty similar, the rr seem so ahev a slightly better smell, and might be a bit more stable, but their best selling point is that theyre almost 4 times cheaper.

roadrunner 2 are a more finnicky on feeding, theyre not doing as good as the rr1, but they might get bigger towards the end since they have a longer flowering time, well see, they do smell very good though.

im following the biobizz feeding schedule, currently feeding every other watering with ph'd water

the dinachem is doing great, i guess im just way better with hydro, which you can see, the plant is perfect in my opinion, i started using silica, with aptus regulator additive, extremely effective stuff by the way,i will create a review thread for the plagron hydro nutrients at the end of the grow since they dont seem to be very popular here, which is a shame since they are in my opinion very good, better than canna and way cheaper and simpler.

ec is at 1.4, ph 6.1

ok so here goes

heres the orange bud :

Yeah I never thought you were affiliated with the manufacturer of these as you've addressed the fan problem I just like your well prepared grows & real time results I can relate to using a product I was interested in I can't justify the price of an area51 or something just as pricey but at $239.00 even if it screwed up down the road I could do some research & fix/upgrade it -vs- spending $600.00+ only to end up with the same problem you're just by coincidence doing what I suggested that guy from econosun should do I'm really happy with your thread here
