This might be a stupid question if i have 400 watts cfl or hps want that youse the same amount of electricty. So just the heat factor is different

hps much deeper light pen. and results. No vs. here bud. cfl is good only for seed sprout and t5 for veg. hps flower ALL the way. That is if you want good weed regularly. Much more work with full grow cfl and much less results. If you talk to anyone growing more then 2 times I can asure u plus 90% have grad. to hps or don't grow anymore.

they both suck down the same amount of power - the hps will give off somewhat more light than the cfl's, but the hps ballast/bulb will be hotter
the total heat given off by the cfl's will be a bit more than the hps, but each cfl will have a lower temp - this may be a bit confusing, but it's case of a lot of small warm bulbs versus 1 very hot bulb

That is way overstated. Lots of growers have grown many times with cfls and gotten results as good as the genetics of the plant allowed. It's not an argument worth having, let everyone believe what they choose. But for the OP, a watt is a watt and yes, heat is a major reason cfl users use them.

400 watts is 400 watts whether it's a curling iron or a HID lighting system. HPS is much more efficient than CFL's. You get more useable light from HPS than CFL of the same wattage.

De ja vu! Its down to personal choice, available funds, size of crop getting grown, available growspace. Its not an argument worth starting up again! Never comes to any kind of conclusion.

You're right. Now we'll be getting people on this thread saying how lumens don't matter to plants.

LOL, I just started reading into these forums about a week ago and just signed up the other day. Man, people are fucking brutal on here. Just don't ask anyone about LED's and everyone will be okay :D LOL

alright man? You know how heated this one can get! I have grown with cfl envirolites and after using hps would never go back to envirolites. The results speak for themselves.

I agree. Results speak for themselves. If you have the space and the $$, HID's are the way to go to get fat, tight buds.

Yeah and per actual watt of power of hps and cfls is exactly the same. Dont know if that sounds right. But it does to me. Lol

to the OP, if you want to get a lot of activity on a thread, just put in 'cfl vs hps' in the title
not saying what kind of activity

You have done your research my friend. VERY good choice. You will be rewarded well! Check out the thread for 400 watt growers.

i am glad for those with success using cfls. They work hard for their results. I use clfs for sprout and veg. It's all good with me....After a short period of time in the hobby you graduate to hps and never look at another thread with words cfl. Using an air cooled reflector and an s & p fan for pulling your carbon filter air and reflector air out of the room makes a better hobby....:weed:

Oh, heat? Yes, 5 degrees hotter then room temp if you use my above mentioned fan. The reflector is so cool you cant tell if is even on. Any heat comes from the glass area keeping plants about 8 inches from glass. I also keep the ballast outside the room but no big deal with the long cord that comes with a lumatek ballast. I use insulated 6 inch ducting as well and it helps in a 3 x 2 x 7 ft. closet. Nothing but growing to focus on. fyi no arguement from me guys...I support anyone who enjoys the hobby. Good vibs all the way...
