cfl lighting

Depends on the size of the CFL lights you want to use. A single 6500 k 300w cfl would veg them easy but to flower I would like a couple 2700k, 200w to 300w, to get better coverage.

You determine LIGHT Needed by Square footage of the grow area, and how many lumens.

A CFL emits about 60 to 70 lumens per watt.

The rock bottom bare minimum to get a plant to live healthy is 3000 lumens per sq ft. To be VERY HEALTHY and Happy and THRIVE , you need 7,000 lumens per sq foot, up to 10,000 per sq ft.

First determine the square footage of your area (example in a 4 foot by 4 foot area, there is 16 square feet, 2 by 2 feet is 4 Sq ft. ) Multiply the sq footage by the number of lumens you want to try to achieve.

7-10 per sq ft, read Roseman's post, that's a guy who knows his shit right there.
You realise they are the wrong colour temperature for growing? They are right for flowering (although very low wattage) but to start with you want 6500k ideally, although 5000k does work.

I would use like 8--100Watt or 8---150Watt cfl's for 4-6 plants...and use some smaller cfl's for the sides of the plants.

dude if your doing a cfl grow your obviously not growing pounds and pounds... use like 4 or 5 5500k 27watt(for veg) and then get yourself 68watt giant cfl(2700k) emits 4200 watts each..so get like 4 of those and some smaller 2700ks for the side lighting and you should get a descent yield.. youll be surprised!
