Cfl life span?

I use t5 over my saltwater aquarium and they need to be replaced about once a year. With my aquarium coral growth/ color begin to get a little dull when the bulbs age. Does the same go for the CFL bulbs?
How long do you get out of a CFL grow?

540 Hours in month if vegin
1080 Hours 3 month blooming

So they could grow 5 grows easy with same bulbs.
