CFL globe blew after 2 hrs use

Hi,

I have big 130W cfl globes like these:

I put it in a reflector that was designed for HID lighting and have used an adapter to get around the round ground plug. Is there a difference between light fittings for HID lights and the big CFL's? Im wondering if I caused the globe to blow or it was just a dud.

The ballasts for HID lights have the same fitting. I think its to prevent you plugging a HID globe direct into the wall without the ballast. As I am using it with CFL there is no separate ballast so I have used a travel plug type adapter to make it go straight into the wall.

The lighter is there for scale.

The CFL's are not your normal CFL's, they are big ones that go into the same sockets as HID globes. The adapter is not to make the CFL fit into the light fitting but to make the power plug go into a normal power socket rather than a ballast.

The light fitting that came with the CFL globes has the same round plug and adapter thing going on. Im just wondering if the light fitting that came with a HID and ballast is wired any differently to the one that came with the big CFL globe.
