CellZero's Grow

After reading and getting advice from a friend I decided to grow in an extra computer case I have. I lined the entire inside with foil, and used a 2700 lumen bulb. I have magnets to keep the side closed and pretty much sealed. I was able to germinate 6 seeds so... I am working with 6 seeds (I expect to only be working with 2 or 3 after vegetation).

If I did have the chance to make a new setup I would have made it out of a taller case so I could fit a PSU in it to power the fan and a temp gauge.

Also take note this case is just for vegetation. I am currently working on a nice setup that I will post pics of when i'm done.

Let me know what you guys think.

Day 1

Day 4

Don't know if you can tell (due to my crappy as camera) but 3 of em have sprouted to about an inch.

Day 5

You may notice a hole or two in the soil. I tried to lift the soil up a bit to see what was happening with the other seed since they were not growing. One seed was still there (wasn't germinated enough). Another grew a bit but I think I put the seed a bit too deep. For the last one that wasn't growing I was able to remove a little bit of soil off the top to expose the sprout (There was a large piece of soil debris that was to big for the sprout to push out of the way). After some water and a few hours it looks healthy enought to continue growing.

One thing I did notice is that the stalk on the front left plant is a bit red? I have no idea if that is good or bad but i'm sure i'll find out eventually.

I am now up to 4 plants.

Yo, CellZero...love your conversion of a PC man. Good stuff mate!

I'm new here too. Just started my first grow yesterday, my seeds are sitting in wet tissue as I type. So you're a few days ahead of me there.

I'm no expert at all, but I wondered how easy it would be to repot those babies when needed, with them all in the same long tub? But I'm sure you'll manage.
Good luck dude, I'm rooting for ya! :weed:

Day 6

The buds are looking great. I've decided to change my vegetation room to something a little better. It should reflect light better and it will give all the plants equal light. The whole thing is lined with foil so when the light is on, it's blinding.

I also have paper towel rolls taped together running to an 80mm case fan that blows about 32cfm that sucks air out. Due to the way i've connected the fan to the tubes the cfm is reduced a bit. I will be replacing it with a 120mm 150cfm fan soon so it should have plenty of ventilation.

Later tonight I am going to transplant the sprouts to individual pots with new soil to give them room to grow. I found a couple tiny bugs in my soil so hopefully transplanting will help with this problem as well.

Day 7

Day 7 and they plants are still looking great. I transplanted them last night after I took pictures and they all look pretty healthy. The plant on the front left (first plant picture) has significantly larger leaves than the rest, you can't tell very well from the pictures though. Possibly a different strain? I have no idea. All of the other plants are coming along pretty well. At this point i'm using water and superthrive.

Hey dude, nice going. a few things though, I believe you have the tin foil up backwards...if you do insist on using it.
Personally I'd loose it, as you were already told, it creates hotspots. Especially when you have creases in it like you do.
The bulb you have, is it 2700 lumens or is it 2700k? If it is the temp, it is for flowering not vegging.
I think you'll find it is 2700k.
As far as your fans, and not being able to utilize the power supply, simply get a 9 volt battery to power the fans. Better yet, if you have an old phone charger, that'll work too. Although they are 12 volt fans, they'll run fine at 9 volts.

I will probably take the foil down tomorrow and buy some mylar. The bulb is 2700 lumens and I really am not sure the wavelength of the bulb. Got it at walmart and it didn't say on the packaging. The fan is not hooked up to the power supply, I have it running to 12v power cord from something (I have a box of these and I just pulled one out). The power supply is there because I am lazy and didn't take it out after testing some fans.

that CFL is way too far away should be about 3-4 inches away from your tallest plant..I knew something was up when I saw how much they stretched in one day. about that light... how many watts is it? how much did it cost?

its a 45 watt light that cost 8 bucks plus tax. The light was lowered. Thanks for the advice. Are there any disadvantges/advantages to plants growing tall fast? I would much rather have them short but just wanted to know for future reference.

Day 9

All the leaves are growing very large and the front plants are starting to grow nice fingers :) The two large leaves on the front left plant are still looking twisted, but they are growing nicely so I guess i'll have to see what happens. I have been rotating my plants here and there if the leaves are leaning too much to the light.

And as you can see i've removed all the foil and raised the light a bit. As soon as I can afford it i'm going to buy a fixtures and some more lights.

Day 16

It's been a few days since I last updated. Been a little busy. My plants are doing ok. The two front are looking great and starting to give off a nice smell :). The back ones are coming along but more slowly than the others. I've been watering and etc the same. I am going to try and but a bottle of vinegar and baking soda in the cabinet to produce some co2 and see if they spruce up a bit. I did come to find tonight that my bulb is indeed 2700k (2700 lumens and 2700k), so when I have a little extra money I will buy a few 6500k bulbs. I think they will be fine for now considering how well they've done under the 2700k.

At this point i'm still running the light 24 hours and will continue to do so until flowering. When watering i've been alternating between regular water and water with superthrive in it. I am running 1x GE 45watt 2700 lumen, 2700k CFL bulb.

Nooooo. Plants do run a seperate process during the night in which they breath in oxygen and breath out carbon dioxide instead of vice versa. I have personally heard of people using 24/0 for the first month but it slows your root development (fact) and deprives a busy plant of its much needed rest(In my opinion).

Personally I took them off of 24/0 after a week plus change and switched them (progressively) down to 16/8 (fits my schedual but most people use 18/6)

Day 18 (early morning)

Hi Rez pics today. The front plants are looking good, I bought a some lights today, they are 26watt 6500k 1600 lumens each. They came in packs of 2 for about $7 each. With all 5 lights in its quite blinding. I had to open the door a bit and put the fan next to it because they do add considerable heat after a while. I didn't want to buy mounts or cords for the lights, so I decided to destroy some computer power cords I have lying around (I only have about 100). I cracked open the bulb and soldered the cords to the board and had a drill a little for the cord to fit. Now I can just hang the lights but the cord. The back plants are still coming along slowly but i'll see what happens in the next few days. I bought some miracle grow fertilizer (24-8-16) which I watered the plants with earlier so hopefully they will get some nutrients they need and perk up in the next day or so. I also got some blooming fertilizer (15-30-15) for flowering. Both of these will probably last many grows (1 tbs per gallon of water). Last but not least I bought a timer and will be running 21 on and 3 off.

Day 18 (night)

I forgot to post these last night, I took more pics because I had to give the camera back to it owner. All is well though, the back plants to look considerable better now than before. The front ones look good as always.

Day 32

It's been a few days since my last update... been a little lazy (you know how it is... :bigjoint:). I moved my plants out of the bathroom and into a little thing I made with some build able shelving, lots of boxes, and duct tape. I used a white shower curtain to cover the front and put a blanket over that (so I can sleep without a lighthouse in my room). I had to tape the cover to a standing fan that sucks air out. I've been alternating between superthrive and some general purpose 24-8-16 miracle grow stuff for a while and misting the plants with soda water. I also repotted into some bigger pots. I think I may need bigger pots before I flower, but I dunno. I would like to flower soon, but I find myself a bit short on cash to buy warm bulbs, I guess it can wait a week or so.
