Cast Iron Cookware

Truly an exciting day today!!! Hold on to your hats! So I was cleaning my parents basement acouple days ago and found 2 cast iron skillets and 1 saucepan. They were just wasting space and wasting away. So I decided to save them and reseason them. I brought them home and have been scrubbing them all morning. I finally got them as clean as they're going to get. After doing some research It looked as though Flaxseed oil is the best oil to use to reseason cast iron. So I rubbed them all over and have them in the oven at 350f for an hour. Once they cool down I'll repeat the process 2-3 more times and they should be awesome. Can't wait to cook some eggs in these bitches. Anyone else got any stories??

we take our camping and right now its full of beans and rice for dinner, love them, so much better than the flimsy 'Nonstick' crap. Real men cook with cast iron.

I knew I wasn't alone! Apparently cooking with cast iron is also good for you because some of the iron comes off in the food and gives you extra iron in your diet which is easy to lack. I bought a dutch oven awhile back which started off my interest. When we found out my wife was pregnant we got rid of all our non-stick stuff and have been using the dutch oven and stainless steel cookware. Pretty happy with the move. Here's the dutch oven, it's pretty awesome.

I got my grandma and grandpa's iron skillet a couple years ago.I guarantee its at least 75y old!I cook everything with it:)!Grandma's love is still with it,it makes me feel good using it and everything tastes better.I also have a Dutch oven and a two burner grill/griddle.Some advice DON'T wash it with soap, just hot water and completely dry it.If you like cornbread, butter it up real good and make a couple batches it will season the pan faster. After you do a seasoning cycle put a little salt in the pan and scrub it around, work that salt and oil in the pan.:)Enjoy your new pan it will be with you forever:).GL.peace

to clean mine i would set them on a pile of brush and burn them they come out like the day t=hey were cast , never use scotch bright or brillo pads on these things , after every use rinse and dry on burner then wipe down with any type oil

For the skillet, just make sure that by clean you mean properly clean. While a "clean enough" skillet will still cook food, if you want to cook good food with it, it should be spiccy span clean.

Cobbler for desert while camping in the dessert ?
Yessir! Absolutely the best! although it seems i could not get my phone post to use the correct spelling lol. if you are into dutch oven cooking, i suggest the peach cobbler. We get camping invites because of it kiss-ass By the way, im not gonna edit the mistake out so i can take my lumps :P
