Mine doesn't. Get the book "worms eat my garbage" for good info.

Bury the scraps a bit and keep a layer of some type of mulch.

Hmm... I just have some damp newspaper on top of the fresh stuff. So you're saying I should add a layer of dirt each time I add fresh scraps?
I'm not disagreeing; I've only had the worm bin a few weeks.

I've been getting advice from a guy who has the exact same setup and he's given me several cu ft of castings from his. I'll ask if he has a problem with smell and whether or not he adds dirt each time.
I'm still figuring this out...

I add a bit of soil if need be. I just kind of roll back what's there and bury the scraps. The scraps should be cut up small to help disappear faster.

I also add a layer of paper then a thick layer of pine straw.
