so i just built a flower box that is 3.5x3.5x6 in a small room in my basement. i also want to make a veg box in the same room, so i can just lock it all up in the same space.

here is my problem... my flower box is in no way light proof. there are 2 roughly 6"x6" intake holes that double as holes for my cords. also the door is not snug fitting, but this is an easy fix. anyways, i am pretty set on a rubbermaid (stacked 2 high) veg box with a small hole on each side for air exchange. a fan will be blowing in one end.

so i am worried that the light leak from these small holes in my veg box will leak into my flower box at night and screw up my flowering plants. the only way i can think of fixing this is by putting a blanket or two over the veg box at night to keep in the light.

would this be too little fresh air if i covered them for 12 hours?? is there a better solution?

also, would this be too little of a light leak to worry about? the room this is happening in is 7'x11', so pretty small. the tubs will probably have a 3"x3" hole on each side leaking light. the holes in my big flower box are 6"x6", this would be pretty much the only area that would let in any signifigant light.

what you think?? any input for any one of my many questions is greatly appreciated. thanks

fuck that was alot of typing

you could stick a bit of ducting on each hole on the veg box and bend them round so the light doesn't really get out but the air keeps flowing, or if it does get out, the light is redirected away from the flower box?

Remember that when plants are grown outdoors they get a little light anyway...such as street lights... the moon... etc, etc. Plants are rarely in complete darkness even in the forest. You want to block out 90-95% of the light. You seem to be pretty conscious of what you are doing... I think you will be ok.

i like it, i got some exta 6" ducting. i might get crazy and run the exhaust duct into, like a cardboard box with a blanket over it. that should give it enough area to blow into and cover up enough of the light. for the intake ducting with the fan blowing into it i could just redirect it away from the box as you suggested. thanks for the idea man.

what about the smell? light pouring out isnt a problem when you have about a dozen flowering hunnies. hook your outtake fan up to some kind of filter? i think the ducting will fix your light prob and make the smell prob easier to deal with

smell hasnt really been much of an issue. i have a diy carbon filter on my flower box. the box in question is just a veg box, so no big deal on the smell. thanks for the input.
