anyone have any expeince in canning buds. I used to get shit froma old school guy and it always camed in a jar that was sealed and almost would pop when lid was pryed off. It would make that classic pickle jar sound when opened.
Im wondering if anyone knows how to do this. was it pressure sealed just like i would preserve any other item, in boiling water or pressure cooker?? or is there another method or something i need to buy.
thanks in advance !

I use mason jars the 4.oz kind. Any sealing jar will work. I use a frying pan with 1& a half inches of boiling water, when I think the jar is hot enough I remove them one at a time and and add a weeks worth of meds. Oven mitts to seal caps Then I cool the jar and when the cap firms up you have a vacuum seal.Don't boil with meds in the jar you might vaporise the good stuff. If you have a lot you can buy a food sealer with the attachment for mason jars Denris

great. Thanks for reply. So basically just heat the jars without meds then add buds once hot. Lid real quick and that should seal once it cools. ?

I've never done this, but heat destroys THC, does it not?
Not really.. heat is needed to activate thc via decarboxylation however it would evaporate off.. but trapped in a can.. who knows.

My only thought is that the heating process needs to bring up the plant material to boiling water temp for at least an 1hour and a half. This is my standard sterile technique when sterilizing jars when growing cubenis. This should kill any mold. But this without a doubt will damage the product.

A properly dried and cured piece in a sterile jar that has been purged of air should last a long time. I store basil and chives this way and I dont have problems with them. As far as bud storage is concerned, I just throw it in the freeze or let it sit in a container with a 62% boveda pack.

Good to know. So you don't see an issue with the quality and taste when you freeze the herb? I've experimented with many ways to store herb, my best results are simply in jars, under my bed in a cool dry consistent temp. I had problems with the taste getting too mild when I froze them, and to a lesser degree even when refridgerated

Its not my favorite method to keep them.. but I have no issues with preservation. I agree it does have problems in a freeze, I can see trichromes broken off under a microscope and some flavor degrades over time, but its keeps for a long time. I've never lost any weed this way.

But stuff thats going to leave soon, I simply keep in containers with boveda packs. I try not to nug them up either, they can stay on the stalk and I stand them up in a container if possible.

thats what i thought, but if i understood denris just heat the glass jars first than add meds. maybe this still can create seal without thc being damaged.
Greasemonkey,The seal is caused by the heating of the air in the jar expanding it, excluding some of it, more air is excluded when you add product when you seal the cap you immediately cool it in cold water, the air returns to its normal size causing negative pressure in the jar sealing it and eliminating some o2 keeping it fresher and holding the humidity Your not pasteurizing it. If the cap clicks when you push on it it's lost its seal Denris

Most heat/vaccume seal devices have a attachment to pull a light vacume on masson jars

But a standard O2 assorber will be much more efficent at removing/locking up O2 , and pull a good vaccume

It does not make to much off a difference anyway , MJ stores like krap under the best conditions delta9 thc degrades to delta8, in about 2-3 years

Thanks all who gave input on this topic. I am going to give it a whirl here in a few days. I have a patient who is out of state for a while and want to keep some meds good for 6-12 months. So I think it should hold up fine. Happy growing all!

I'd like to amend my post yesterday. I jarred my latest and the last jar cracked when I put it under cold water. It was probably too hot and the water too cold. So a cool water bath is better then a cold one Sorry, denris

Yes hot to cold doesnt work so good for glass, lol. I made a hgh batch of tincture and same thing happened. worked out cause the gylcerin serpated pretty good from water and didnt lose my product. that would suck with yummy nuggets. thanks for claryifying!

go to amazon and buy a vacuum cap (11.00), buy a cheap brake bleeder pump (20.00). pump until you cant pump any more, and viola a vacuum sealed jar with NO risk of the jar cracking and ruining your medicine.
