Cannabis For Dysphagia?

I am a medical cannabis patient of course however i was pondering something . I am curious if my medicine or a medicine can work to help with dysphagia ( difficulty swallowing ) . I have dysphagia , my doctors and specialists have no idea why or how to stop it at this time ( it's ridiculous 1 year with this now ) I take motility pills to even be able to eat so i can survive , i am only 25 and i wonder if they are going to tuck tail and run on me if cannabis could help me ? I don't know if there is much to go on here since i couldn't source any info about this , maybe it hasn't been studied yet but it should be . I know dysphagia occurs in quite a few young people even though it's more so with seniors ..... i wonder if cannabis has a positive affect besides stimulating an appetite .

given that cannabis often causes cotton mouth i would think smoking would not be something you would want to parttake in

what TYPE of dysphagia do you have/been diagnosed with there are several?

that's the sad part ... it's around a year later and they haven't diagnosed me , even after all the tests . I need to find real doctors who give a fuck .

will do ! i don't think cannabis has much to offer besides some appetite stimulation sometimes but just thought i would ask if any one had any knowledge of this . Thanks
i would think cannabis and its cotton mouth symptom may make things worse tbh

You make a good point which is why i tend to medicate well before eating and not right before in the hopes an appetite will come on but by the time i eat , the cotton mouth subsides . I was recently handed a prescription for lorazepam since my doctor mentioned it might be due to anxiety .... i don't know much about the pills but have not heard great things . I don't like to take pills if i can avoid it , it did get me thinking however . If cannabis can be used to battle anxiety and the pills he gave me are for anxiety ... could cannabis possibly assist in some way or maybe it's just not as effective as those type of meds would be . I don't seem to notice a difference though , nothing dramatic anyways so maybe the theory just sounds better or makes more sense in my head .

if you havent taken that already dont, go back to your doctor and ask for a prescription for slow acting anxiety medications
that is a fast acting med that is very easy to get addicted to and had side effects and withdrawal problems. It is abused more than used properly
you want something that takes 2-3 weeks to build up in your system, that you can wean yourself off if you ever want to zoloft or cerlexa ...busupar something like that

cannabis can help with symptoms of anxiety just like medications however you need to do most of the back work yourself you need to fix your own anxiety problems by using coping methods and therapy related methods like cognitive behavioural therapy
if you have anxiety i suggest going to a therapist , they can work with you on non medicine related coping methods
above all you have to eat healthy/exercise and stay away from caffeine

heres my thread on how i beat my anxiety ,almost 5 years not a single attack https://www.rollitup.org/t/anxiety-and-you-lets-focus-on-winning-the-battle.847086/ obviously not all of it will work for you everyones different but it is achieveable you just have to work at it
you cant just expect to take a med or smoke pot and be anxiety free, thats highly unrealistic and im sure maybe will argue with me but it takes a system in place rather than one thing to make your body and brain work together cohesively

I have not taken the pills as they worried me when i read up on them . I haven't even went to obtain them from the pharmacy . I think you are onto something , they seem like dangerous pills . I actually am considering the therapy approach not only for anxiety but another big part of it that i suffer from 12 years now ... derealization/depersonaliztion ... i find people suffering with it online but no real cure , a lot of them claim to just learn to live with it . It would be nice if there was a fix though ... maybe therapy could ? I wonder if you have insight on this topic! thanks for all the help.

do you know anything about depersonalization and derealization? i am looking for a method to help with these and anxiety ... your post has given some useful tips and knowledge though.

Therapy should help but to be honest you shouldn't be smoking marijuana if you have depersonalizations until you see a psychiatrist who can see if you're not also suffering from possible schizophrenia
You're male in your 20s right?
Ask to seek a psychiatrist out simply state you're not looking for any medications that are often abused
They can't force you but they do have to help

i don't like taking pills , the thought of ingesting something i don't fully understand with many down sides makes me panic . I can barely handle a coffee which is why i stay off sugars and caffeine .. never mind a pill like that with addictive properties . I am sad to hear about the cannabis as it greatly helps my pain although .. i do have strange reactions / different highs than most claim to get . I think maybe therapy is sounding more and more appropriate for me . Thanks for the great advice and yes i am 25 . I will look into this! I don't know the signs of skitzo but i don't think i have them? i will see what they think when i find one . I just want this nightmare to end , all of it . I thought the cannabis would at least help easy the pain helping 1 of the issues .

I'm almost done a bachelors in mental health and addictions it's all very interesting to me
I think you said you were from Canada
You can get refered to a psychiatrist quite easily just either make an appointment with your doctor to see one
Call your doctors office and ask for a referral

Or if you don't have a doctor or he is away for a long time you have other options but I would need to know where exactly you are to help with that
If that's the case just inbox me and I'll give you the information

It is often depersonalizations goes hand in hand with schizophrenia it's rare though so don't get worked up
The can't drink coffee or inability to take drugs like Advil which sends you into a panic is your anxiety I had that and still do I can't take anything stronger than Tylenol ... Giving birth in 6 months should be a real trip as I won't take an epidural LOL!

When you do see a psychiatrist let them know you smoke it is possible to still get a med card and work with a grower who will give you strains that are only in CBD and low THC so you don't have to suffer with the psychoactive parts of smoking as it can be extremely uncomfortable with depersonalizations

i wish you all the best with your journey into birthing a life . I am thankful for this advice and i will see what i can do and then check back with you . I have a doctor but actually am considering finding a new one but it hasn't been so easy . I don't want to sound so negative but he honestly hasn't really helped me with any issue i ever came to him with above a cold . I don't think he cares all that much in honesty like a good physician or doctor should . I don't hallucinate i don't think and when i get real medicated .. i don't then either but if i have too much things can become extremely distorted and uncomfortable .. too many overwhelming visuals and sensations or lack of sensation all together makes me feel like i am losing control and my heart can race . I try to overcome this with smaller doses and i do incorporate CBD strains into my rotation , mostly indicas . I find sativa's can be too much for me . I was using them for day time use but i had a few bad "trips" i would say and got off them . it felt like i was in someone else's body i guess and i had some audio sounds that were bothering me ... also the room became very large and zoomed in to me and i felt smaller and out of touch with myself .. low doses of indica i seem to handle much better and it does relieve my pain . I had an experience with eating cannabis leaves as a kid and triggered all this ...... i regret ever doing it now .... but i suppose if it was going to happen it would have anyways .

I am unable to diagnose if you were standing in front of me. I was an RN. But I worked in gastroenterology with scopes for several years as an OR nurse in ambulatory surgery. The most common type of dysphagia in young people is eosinophilic oesophagitis. More common in males and for unknown reasons has reached almost epidemic proportions. As with many conditions it is caused by inflammation without the actual causes of the inflammation being known many times.

By the way - dilation with graduated size rubber dilators often brings relief even if temporary. Done under conscious sedation while an upper gastroscope is used.

Also use Leafly to seek strains good for inflammation. I would suggest looking into oils or tinctures or methods not involving harsh smoke to irritate the upper airways and esophagus.

The goal in any treatment modality here is treating the inflammation even if we are unsure of the cause.
