Canna coco and airpots, fungus gnat central

Man, with these airpots, I have a fungus gnat problem that sns203 at full strength merely suppresses at full strength.

Gonna switch back to a regular pot after this grow unless i can find a way to control these fungus gnats. I dont even overwater. I let it get a bit dry. The top inch definitely dry. Yellow stickies in the tent as well.

Damn gnats

defiantly switch pots, if you want more air to your roots use the smart pots imo. but for now if you cant transplant into something else, just put breathable gauze tape over your holes after you water, and sand or gnatnix (growstone) if your grow store has it on the top of your soil accompanied by the sns203 and that should do it

The canna coco is infested,if you use it (canna)use sm-90 right away, when you rinse and charge your cococ.i have been using H&G coco, no gnats but does not hold as much h2o,it has to be watered more than the canna.I still like the canna but you have to control the fungas gnats.Never tried it but i heard potatoe slices on the coco surface works.

I use mosquito dunks and yellow sticky traps. I use the fabric pots now and not the Super roots pots anymore. The freaking bugs loved those. I don't use bagged coco either. I hope you find a solution for your problem.

Thanks for all the insight. I have been using yellow stickies, need more.

I am gonna try a combination of gnatnix and sns203 this time. I think that if i keep it at least supressed then they wont effect me much through flowering. I wont bother switching pots until my next grow. I really think coco+airpots make a good combo, but these gnats...i know I can overcome them. They are actually a problem in the region I live in as well.

I need to look into a cheaper option than sns203 though. I wont use the rest of my bottle until i can use it in conjunction with the gnatnix.

I have gone through at least 10 bags of canna coco and it is all I use. I have not had any critters of any kind. I do keep sticky traps in the room to catch any that manage to make it into the room. I would look at how you bring your intake air in ( filtered?) I am most certain that the gnats are not coming into your room from the canna coco and are getting into your area by some other means.
I have messed with several coco makes and I find canna to be the best and cleanest hands down. I do not pretreat it in anyway, just open and go.
I use it for cloning as well and have had excellent results.
I do recommend losing the airpots and change to smart type pots or just regular grow bags ( I have used both ).

Peace and Great Grows

Just an update...nematodes and yellow sticky paper have done a real number on their population...ive been in 12/12 since november 1 and I think i have it handled at this point.

Gotta be agressive to get rid of fungus gnats. Gotta be tougher than the gnats.

I just started using air pots to experiment with and I usually take a small pile of coco and mix in some DE. I then use that pile to pack in the sides and for the top layer. Had no critters at all and usually I'll get some fungus gnats here in the summer when using coco.

Very simple method to this problem
Put a layer of hydroton near the root zone. and also below in the pot i.e make a sandwich breads are hydroton. Completely hide coco with it.
Now keep sticky yellow traps to catch the gnats which already are in the medium.
Now the hydroton will stop laying of the gnat egg. Gnats lay egg in the wet medium and coco holds water so gnats create problem. Hope this help. I tried and noted this method from a good and extreme experience. I do not face gnat problems now.
You can also use perlite in place of hydroton but the important thing is to hide the coco completely with it. No need to any any pest control only yellow sticky tarps (i used yellow tape and catched hell lots of gnats)

I just went back to the Super-roots Airpots for my vertical grow. From what I noticed is that if gnats get into my grow room it is because of something I did. I know make sure I filter the intake air also.
