Simple question, has anyone done it?

Can you transplant a plant already in a soil pot into a hydro, aero, or bubbleponics system? will it shock the plant?

please shed some insight!

Yes. It may take a few days to adapt before speedy growth reoccurs. And if mature could present the chance of a hermaphrodite.

And your first question, yes. I have done this multiple times with younger growth. I wouldn't risk your whole crop to such, start small.

I wouldn't think you could transplant a soil plant into DWC very effectively as soil roots are useless in water. The roots in my DWC system look like feathers or pipe cleaners, instead of shoots. You might also have issues with suspension. I start my clones in rockwool and then put them straight into Orchid nets so the roots start growing through straight away. Transplanting from soil into hydro is fine though, I've done it before with great results (soil sux). I'd recommend a perlite/vermiculite medium that will get in-between the roots. With Hydroton you will get big clumps of roots with no separation until they grow out into the medium. Having big clumps of roots together under 6 inches of Hydroton is just asking for root rot. Just wash as much soil as possible from the root ball without doing too much damage before you transplant it. Good luck

thanks guys! lets say i have two 4-6inch tall still young sage and sour's in a 4inch tall and 4 inch wide container already in soil. Basically wash off all the dirt/soil off their roots and place them into my aeroponics system? i am using coco by the way!

Make sure to wash the roots very well no dirt in between the roots the plant can take it as long as you don’t go ripping roots take your time and gently spread the roots out while water is running over them I do it in a large sink, they will go into shock but in a week you'll be so glad you transplanted them and they will love you for it, Good Luck
