Im putting together a little grow cabinet and have a 175 w light with built in ballast connected to the reflective hood. My question is can i grow my whole cylce with this one light or do i need to add more heat coming flowering time? Please i need help.

Why would you want more heat?

How big is the cab you are putting together?

I grew a plant in a 1x1x2 with 4x23w (92w) . Got almost 1/4 Oz.

I still have the cab, now I just have some clones in it.

Well this is what I'm working with. Cause i know this light is better then cfls right? And nice set up. So I'm going to remove the roof or bottom cover and attach the light and seal any openings. Do you think I'm better off using cfls?20160821_181517.jpg 20160821_155444.jpg 20160821_171522.jpg 20160821_171545.jpg

You would probably be best with cfl or a small t5. Your absolutely going to run into heat issues with that. Your going to have to worry about the plants getting too tall and touching the light as well and with your very limited head room your going to have to keep them tiny tiny. With cfl you can let them pretty much touch the light without the worry of burning them.

Yes, you will definitely have heat issues with that. I was having temps up to 100+ with my 4 cfls.

What I'd do is remove the bottom of the top drawer and swap for a sheet of plexiglass, and have your light in the drawer with a pc fan to cool the cfls. Doing this separates the light/heat from the plants grow area and allows you clean easy access to your lights and plants.

I thought for a while I would build grow cabs for people in my area, but I grow weed and that's one way to let people know what's in your house who may or may not be shady haha.

Here's a pic I found on Google. (Not my setup)

Note the plexiglass between the plants and lights. I put my fan to extract air from the box in there to exhaust the cab.P10000902.JPG

That would be a perfect cab. Super easy to modify. It looks long enough for an 18" t5 as well. I would do a mix of 6500k and 3500k for a full spectrum of light.

You got me wanting to build now! LOL

Yeah, the hid is going to create a lot of heat. If you could find a way to extract that heat it would be fine. You could use it and supplement with led

Got it thanks very much man! No for my next questions lol. How many cfls per plant? Aslo you said it would be a good idea to use both 2600k and 3600k how many each? And if i do decide to use the smaller cabinet should i still use both kind?

Honestly, as many as you can fit. You can't use to many cfls. Just control your heat. As far as how many of each color, I always used an even mix.

T5s would be a lot easier to work with though.

Good to know. You are literally guiding me through this man highly appreciated. I dont really want to be mixing nutrients i just want to put up the lights and the plants and get on a schedule already so im planing on picking up some premixed soil. Is that a good idea? Does it matter?

No worries, glad I can help. I grow organic now, so I use a personal mix, but you could get something like fox farm ocean forest and that would be good by itself, but you may have to add things to it later if you run into deficiencies.

It's easy though cause all you have to do is top dress if you have an issue. Like I had a phosphorus issue, I topped with some bat guano and it was fine.

Soil is alot more convenient than hydro. I know you don't wanna mix nutes, but may even look into to growing in coco. And just get a GH stater box. I find coco works great for small spaces.

No worries bro. Just hit me up if you need any help. I'm not the Yoda of growing but I've been doing it long enough to know what I'm doing.

with a cabinet that small controlling heat will be a problem. standard F14 T5 bulbs (not ho) would be the coolest, most effiecient option. 6 bulbs would give you plenty of light and very little heat in that cabinet. just my 2 cents worth
