can genetics cause mold?

Hey folks, looking for a little feedback.
First off I'm no expert...
I got some Rockstar seeds from medman. Three of them came through as females. I took a couple clones and sent them into flowering. One of them looked different, it had fat stubby leaves. I wish I had taken pictures, but I didn't. Anyways, they were in bloom room at 78 deg, 40rh, lots of airflow.
The plants were relatively small producing 200g ea wet.
I have never had any mold issues with any of the different strains I have grown. Lots of space and good airflow.
This stubby leaf Rockstar's top bud molded out on me. I've been watching these new ladies every day. I wasn't even sure if it was mold at first, not having any experience with it. I had noticed that this plants buds felt gooey rather than sticky when I squeezed it ( yeah I know I should't be molesting the buds, couldn't resist ). Overnight the bud was showing a vivid white almost powdery patches. I snipped off the bud and opened it up to find grey / brown mold...shocked to say the least. Just the top bud, rest seem fine.
So I'm really scratching my head.
This pheno had weird leaves, plant kinda looked deformed, gooey not sticky. The other two Rockstar phenos looked fine , no issues, no mold. Same location, same nutes...
Do you think I'm looking at a genetic freak or a disease?
Sorry, wish I had taken some damn pictures.

some plants are very susceptible to molds but it has to be a poor environment.
Grown properly, things should all go well..

:)

hope this helps.

Well this is the issue gb...it isn't a poor environment. I'm talking years without issues...all the other plants in the same room are fine. This freaky plant was not crowded, looked after properly, and in the last week this mold appeared on the top bud.
It's really weird.
Needless to say I won't be taking any more clones from this pheno.

I know exactly what you are experiencing. I grew for a few years, countless strains. First TGA Void i flowered out, bud rot mania. The environment was just dandy for growing cannabis, there was no issue with temps, humidity, or air circulation. Some strains are just so susceptible to mould that they're pretty much ungrowable.

It makes sense to me. I notice sometimes when looking for seeds they expressly mention that the strain is mold resistant, heat tolerant...so I would suggest that those characteristics are bred. My Wh. Widow this round doesn't look anything like my Wh. Widow from the last crop same seed pack for example.

All three phenos look different, I will have to keep a close eye on the other two on the next run.

I should have said....
grown in the proper environment the strain is accustom to...
every climate is different and each strain needs different things..

sorry for the confusion.

sure you can have issue with one plant and one plant only.
some breeders even advertise plant mold susceptibility.
When we used to grow as kids we used to search out seeds that had traits that were not susceptible to mold ...specially with our shit, cold, late season.

Yep, I see what you're saying.
I've got 3 new strains I'm playing with and will have to find out what each one likes.
It's a learning curve with every new one. It does break up the monotony though.
West Coast Sour Diesel and Conkushion are the other two strains.

Leaf...you little devil....what you been up too lol
Sounds like a freak to me if only the one top did that. Especially at only 40% RH.
chuck da bitch and find a new girl. You need clones.
I'm not familiar with the rockstar so can't comment on it susceptibility to mould...seems unlikely from what you've described

My white russian is having mold problems too,it is from seed and 2 of the 3 have bud rot .R/h is good and 5 other strains in the same room are fine, the buds are massive and dense but it really sucks to have grey mold, used to have mold issues with my old sensi star too..some strains are definitely susceptible to mold ,

It's gone already...have two other Rockstar phenos.
Um...clones...I would love a good Girl Scout Cookie cutting.

Fans fans fans....right at the buds.
Yes the big thick ones can do that. Sometimes you can sorta open the flower by hand an allow some air flow....on the biggest if ya think mould is gonna occur.

someone told me they did not like the BCBD, GSC, BX1 they grew out just recently.
but a cutting of something known to be good would be nice...

wow, 40rh and still mold? That is odd.

I have some medmans rockstar, 2 weeks away from finish, I'll report back how it turns out.
