Calling all COBs, Calling all COBs, come in number crunchers are you receiving?

Hello interweb Cannabuddies,

Just for giggles I have been looking at COB bargains in Europe. I would really appreciate some opinions on a couple of budget friendly COBs I have located here in Europa.

I am attracted to these COBs purely based on their price point and availability in my neck of the woods.

Prospect number one is the CLU046-1212C1-353H5G3 (3500k) also available in 3000k and 4000k at prices less than $4. There are several hundred of these available in all three colours.
Datasheet: http://ce.citizen.co.jp/lighting_led/dl_data/datasheet/en/COB_4/CLU046-1212C1_P3096_0415.pdf

Prospect number two is the http://octa-electronics.com/en/products/light-emitting-diodes/cob-le-ds/c7a-series This company is based in Bulgaria and their pricing for the C7A is around $18(cheaper the more you purchase). If you explore their website they have other COBs at cheaper price points.

Datasheet: http://octa-electronics.com/web/files/product_groups/41/files/Data Sheet C7A v1.1.pdf

I know there are several members here whose number crunching abilities far surpass my own. Many of which actually enjoy this side of the hobby which I must confess is my least favorite pastime.

Any opinions, be they positive or negative would be most appreciated.

Cheers,
Will

Sorry Will, I totally spaced out on the octa-electronics question you asked. I looked at the data sheets, but there wasn't a whole lot to go on there.

Basically they claim about 130lm/W at 150W, which is great, and roughly the same as the Citizen CLU048-1818 at 150W, but the datasheet is sparse, and as we've seen with Citizen, real world performance is often different than you might expect.

They might be worth pursuing, but I'd get the CLU046 and not think twice about it at those prices. It's just a surer bet.

just remember one main rule 3 worst bin leds always is better than 2 in top bin class.

for example lets take 2 COB clu058 1825 run at 2000mA aprox. 200W and 3 clu 048 run at 1.350 mA same power give you 3-4% more optical radiation. same with cost of cobs

two of 1825 cost more than 3 1818 :)....

and in other hand 6 clu058 1825 run at 1000mA gives you more that you need;)

I am going to order 10 x CLU046 of all three colours and a couple of samples of the C7A in 2700k to have a play with. I just wanted opinions one way or the other. For the prices I don't think I can go wrong. My little collective seems to be growing and the need for cost effective COBs is more of an issue now.

Cheers,
Will

Myślę, że będziesz robić dobre interesy z tego forum . Może powinieneś być reklamodawcą rollitup . Będą oni zostawiają cię w spokoju wtedy. Przepraszam, jeśli mój polski nie jest dobry Używam Google Translate .

That's called extortion. This really bums me out. Somebody here is complaining, I guarantee it. Meanwhile, Amare spam all day all long.

I think extortion would imply a lack of choice. Lets face it rxr2 is going to bring his product to market. He is most probably going to do extremely well with it. How can Rollitup continue to generate revenue from advertisers if they do not respond to what is perceived by them at least to be free advertising. I have seen countless schills post here and get immediately slammed by members for blatant and underhanded marketing tactics. rxr2 is different because he has actually shown us something we like and has credentials to back his findings. Regardless of intentions it is the perception that counts. I do not think rxr2 will give his product away. I think it is unfair to ask Rollitup to do so.

Rxr2 please do not think I do not appreciate your posts. They have been rewarding to read and I hope you continue to contribute. I just think a start up company should have room in their budget for advertising. You have attracted a lot of attention to your designs and as an advertiser you would have the ability to continue to expand this interest and generate sales.

We all get to play on the swings here but this is somebody else's playground and they pay to keep the lights on.

For what it's worth,
Will
