California Medical Laws?

I'm looking to move to Cali. I was thinking about purchasing real estate in Merced, CA. The price of houses in Merced, CA is what caught my eye and is well within my budget. However, I don't know much about the medical marijuana laws in Cali except that its supposedly easy to receive a Medical card and that the number of plants and cured weight varies from county to county. I searched on Google for medical laws in CA specifically in Merced which resulted in news highlights from the early 2000 to about 2013 of how Merced sheriffs are attempting to enforce stricture regulations on the number of plants and etc... I did come across: http://www.canorml.org/medical-marijuana/local-growing-limits-in-California#Merced
specifically:
Merced
Merced county supervisors voted unanimously on September 10, 2013 to approve an ordinance that would limit medical marijuana cultivation to 12 plants per parcel of land, indoors or out. Violators will receive a 72-hour abatement notice and be subject to a misdemeanor charge possibly resulting in six months in jail and-or a $1,000 fine. An administrative appeal may be filed within 10 days after a notice to abate is served (sections 9.29.086 and 9.29.103). The ordinance took effect 30 days after its adoption.

12 plants per parcel of land, indoors or out is rather vague, imho. Does anyone know of another website that goes into more detail about the Medical Marijuana laws in Merced. Also, is Merced a good choice or should I focus my search in another part of Cali?

The canorml site you found is updated more than most sites.... After that site it is good to verify the info because things change often...

In California, you can grow as many as you want as long as you are willing to go to court and have your doctor vouch for your medical necessity for that many plants. That's why they give you an abatement notice and let you file an appeal instead of just taking your plants and hauling your ass off to jail.

Almost nobody in California gets the MMP card. Again, without the card you can be arrested and you have to go to court and prove you have a medical necessity. The card provides protection from arrest. The clubs don't require it so almost nobody goes through the effort and expense of getting a card from the government.

That's something to definitely consider. I had no idea this was the case. I wonder how willing these doctors are to actually go to court for anyone.
