Cali Connection 818 Headband: Nector For The Gods Grow

Now that the Sour is done in the experimental tent. It's time to give the Nector For The Gods line a try. I have been running this pheno of 818 since July of last year and was the best out of two packs of regular seeds, where there were multiple keepers to choose from. I believe this will be my 8th crop, as I spent the spring testing out 3 different strains and kept her out of the lineup. She is usually a very lanky/viney girl, and the budding structure of your typical OG. The sour really shows through though when it comes to smell and taste. She usually goes 65-70 days, and this is straight couch lock bud, where as the Sour Kush from DNA/Reserva is something you can smoke all day without getting that tired lazy feeling.

Unfortunately I do not have any recent pictures of the 818 due to my old lap top taking a shit, and dropping my old phone in a batch of compost tea earlier this summer. Here is a pic of one of the last buds of the 818 from my last crop. This is a relatively small nug but it gives you an idea of what the finished product looks like.

One of the great benefits of working in a hydro shop is the access to samples, and in the case of Nector they have been gracious enough to give out sample boxes of qt bottles of Gaia Mania, Medusa Magic, Zeus Juice, Demeters Destiont, Athena's Aminas, and Herculean Harvest. In this box are also small bottles of Bloom Khaos and their pH up. I have a few boxes to work with for this grow and also picked up Aphrodite's Extraction, since it had the potential to replace a few products I normally work with.

I am extremely impressed as to how the Nector Line has performed in the Veg Stage. The plants have gone from 7-10" clones to over 4' plants in just 33 days. I have also noticed that my stalks are thicker than usual. I think that that the great reduction in nitrates and EDTA has allowed my beneficial microbe population to really thrive. It has already shown to have the ability to replace my base nutrients(Heavy 16 Veg A&B) and additives like General Hydro Rapid Start,General Organics CaMg+, and Heavy 16 Foliar.

I'll add some pictures tomorrow after the experiment tent is fully cleared of the Sour and given a good cleaning. I'll also add some before and after pics of the trellis net set up, so you guys can get a sense of how big they got and their lanky structure.

Forgot to to take the before pictures of the trellis, but they are ready for flowering, and I'll post some pics in the morning when the lights go off.

I am not going to lie, this is kind of sloppy, but they just got so big that I had to do my best to spread them out as much as I could under the first layer of trellis net. I really should have just converted the veg tent into a flower tent 10 days ago, but I slacked on them, while I was harvesting the Sour. I am sure they will be fine and adding the second trellis net in a week or two should make help with evening out the canopy.

I see what you mean about needing to have the canopy more even. Looks like those girls stretched on you quite bit. I'm sure you will get it straight here in the next couple weeks.

Man you are one lucky man I wish I could get all those goodies your getting. I guess that's one of perks of working in a store. Let me know how the new trellis is. I'm about to go get one sometime this week

It's a lanky plant to begin with too, which is why I'm hoping to get a pheno from the AO cross that will be extremely similar but not as stretchy.

This cargo net is pretty bad ass as a trellis net! It was so easy to put up compared to the string style ones I have been using, and I can already tell that it's going to stay in place and not budge as the plants grow like the other ones too. The squares are a tad larger than I like, but not a big deal. Well worth the $4 I paid IMO!

You ever tried supercropping to beef up the branches? Maybe with it being so stretchy it will help but it could make them stretch more. I think that AO cross will help with the stretch

I have not. I usually just top them twice and that's it. It's usually not this bad, I just wasn't prepared for them growing so much faster being on the new food, I should have topped them a 3rd time and put the trellis up 10-14 days ago. Live and learn. I'm on top of them now though and will work it out one way or another.

If you run you 818 again it's something to think about trying. I always do a lil supercropping just to be sure that branches aren't too weak when it goes to flower so it help support buds. I know you will get it in order and can't wait to see both.

I know I will have at least 3 more groups of the 818 after this one. The group after this is also 818, they just went into veg tent. Taking Gorilla Glue #4 clones today which will be the group after that, then the AO corss x 818 and sinmint after that, and finally maybe the last 818 group depending on how I like the GG#4.

Man I wish I was back home right now. I'm from Toledo, OH and would love to get my hands on the Glue. It sucks when you dont have grower friends where you live like me. Everything has to be seeds except for my own clones.

Yeah I lived in FL for the first 4 years I was growing so I know how that is. The glue has been a very hearty plant so far, pretty excited for it and if I get any nice males from the 818 cross or the SinMint I may try breeding with it.

Florida has some top notch genetics and growers so I'm kinda surprised you didn't know anyone that you could get reliable genetics from. Next year I'm gonna do some traveling and hopefully I'll be able to get some great clone onlys in my stable.

I am young(mid 20's) and just didn't hang out with people who were interested in growing, so I was never exposed to anyone in the know down there.

The only reason I started growing was because a friend in Tally had a copy of the bible that he got when he was thinking about growing, and after flipping threw it I was dead set on doing it myself. Six months later I had two walk in closets full of White Widow and Master Kush plants.

Same here bro mid 20s and people I hung with weren't really into it either. I've always been intrigued by growing and once I was able to do some small indoor stuff in high school and grew an amazing outdoor in the woods by my house I was truly hooked. Everything was bagseed then but once I found out about Attitude it was over lol. Haven't grew bagseed since lol

OK. Well I decided to veg these girls for a few days after the last pic to allow them to even out through the first layer of net. I ran into a N toxicity while doing so, so for the last 5 days I have been straightening that out, and they are just now getting back to normal. I'm just happy I didn't start flowering them.

I have been following the feeding chart, but think that I need to drop the doses. Instead of doing my usual nutrient then tea watering schedule, I'm going to go nutrients/tea/water.

All that being said I am going to give them 2-3 more days to fully rebound and then finally start flowering. These already take 65+ days to finish, so this week set back is really annoying, and causes other groups to to veg longer than normal. Luckily the Gorilla Glue clones that I took a few days ago seem to veg slower than the 818's so it shouldn't create too big of a problem.

This is the first time I have ever made this big of a change to my nutrient regimen, so I am not totally surprised that I ran into an issue. I am more surprised that it is a toxicity issue, because the 818 is usually a heavy eater when it comes to salt based products. I have brought it up to 2000ppm before with no issues. Well it was a learning experience. I am still impressed with how NFTG performed in Veg, and put more of the blame on me then the food.

Yea it's always best when changing nutes to run a lil bit light. I know you know this already but I'm just speaking for some who may not. I'm sure you will get it back in order as you grow great stuff.

By what your reporting about the nutes it sounds like they're very good nutes. Very concentrated. To me that let's me know it's a good product when you have to lower doses. Depending on how your grow goes I may give them a shot.
