Whenever doing shelf gardening it's best to use a standard size like 2' x 8' giving you 16 square feet per shelf. Most fluoro setups are either 4 or 8 feet so that helps with lighting if you are using linear fluoros. Either way, you don't want to make the shelves too wide because then it's a pain in the ass to water and care for the plants.

A shelf system of some sort works good.(Book shelf) With 18-24 inches between shelves. Hang a t-5 or t-8 fluorescent bulb that is 2-4 feet long. A single tube or two will be plenty of light. Or use a table with lights 18-24" above the clones. Some lights come with stands others can hang from the ceiling with hooks. Keep it simple. You can use cloning gel or powder, it helps but is not required. For 500 clones your just going have to trial and error it, for lights and space. I would guess that 4-2ft bulbs or 2-4ft bulbs in individual reflectors should cover the space that 500 requires. Start small and then add more as required.

thank you guys very much for your help. i was wondering around how many clones do i set on each shelf per bulb?

i was going to do 2 full shelves with 3 compartments leaving me with 6 total compartments to put up lights. Should i do 1 bulb per 2ftx8ft shelve? i was thinking about possibly putting 100 clones on each shelf?

i dont need that many clones, so i dont fill the rack up much....however im sure i could fit it.

also, keep in mind.... you dont need anything too powerful as clones dont need too much light, if they do have too much light, they concentrate on foilage growth instead of rooting

here's a pic for your imagination. keep in mind this is an older picture...and i think i put another shelf on top too since i last updated pics of my prop rack

the top rack is for seedlings and rooting clones that are cloned in plugs, second shelf is rooted clones that semi veg ready to be put into flower, third is mothers

Yep.

12x96" wire shelves. Each with 2-8' T12 F80 Daylight fluorescents mounted underneath overlooking the next shelf down. Cheap & easy.

on a 24inches by 32inches shelve do i put 3 x 4ft t5? or 6 x 4ft t5? <converted by google original stats are 60cm x 80 cm so 3 or 6 4 ft t5's? is the question

got the shelves today 200cm x 240cm x 50 cm, now my question is should i hang 2 120cm T8 or 1 T8 per shelf?

i was thinking 2 since 50 cm is pretty wide.

would leave me with a total of 12 T8 on 6 shelves.

sound right to you guys?

so 6 or 12 lights suggestions welcomed
