Building 2 tub dwc

hi. I am a complete newb.

I am attempting to build a two tub dwc system which I can use to grow clone cuttings immediately.

I need help with the basics of building a system. I have looked online briefly at all of the many tutorials online and and I THINK I understand, but really, I have no idea what I'm doing at all whatsoever

My plan is to purchase two black tote tubs today from Walmart

Sterilite 18 Gallon Tote Box- Recycled- Black (Available in Case of 8 or Single Unit) - Walmart.com

I have pvc pipe laying around

I plan to purchase this 20-60 gph air pump from walmart

Aqua Culture: 20-60 Gallon, Double Outlet Aquarium Air Pump, 1 Ct - Walmart.com

Two air stones similar to this

Aqua Culture Bubble Aquarium Stone, 1ct - Walmart.com

And airline tubing

Airline Tubing, 25' - Walmart.com

Now I'm assuming all I need to do is connect the two tubs together at the bottom with the pvc pipe with hole drilled into the bottom of each of the tubs, drill small holes into the top of each tub near the lid for the Airline tubing....

And I just connect each of the two air stones to the one double tubed air pump that I am purchasing today, and stick each stone to the bottom of the two tubs I am purchasing. I also see where it is preferred that I find air stones with suction cups, to help secure them to the bottom of the tubs.

Is this correct so far? Excuse me if my question seems too simple to answer but I just want to understand whether or not I am getting to general concept of this dwc thing

No. Use a submersible pump ND a black 5 gal bucket and ez peEl lid. Get fittings to build a sprayer for the pump. Use a,1/2" tube, to a barbed fitting with a female thread, to a sprinkler head and vuah lah. You're done. Full it with Ph'd ro water so it's just below the head. Use a kneeling pad for your neoprene pucks and drill them out with a hole saw. Cut your holes in the lid aND put your clones in. Time it for 15 mins of every hourm

you can either do 2 self contained systems (an entire system per tub), or a combined system with 2 tubs, and most likely an external rez.

If you're doing self-contained tubs, id just follow this:

http://www.growweedeasy.com/600w-dwc-cannabis-grow-journal

She goes over her setup: its just a self-contained RDWC rez, with drippers. Probably the easiest and most dense setup you can go with.

If you want to do a shared system, you'd want to go the 5g bucket approach generally

EDIT: and if you want to do different strains, you'll probably want independent systems. From what I read most strains will run across some sort of nutrient concentration difference- its best to keep them separate so you can dial each rez independently

Thank you for your reply. Is there any way that you could tell me exactly how to build this like I'm five years old? Can you explain it to me like I'm five?

Thank you I'll will read this thread now. Also, I plan to build at least four systems once I get the gist of things. Four two plant systems

One thing I want to ask is would it not be a benefit to use two tubs (one to hold the two plants, the other being empty) since one tub would force me to have to handle and move the actual plants whenever I need to do something to the water? Or would this not be a problem?

I found this super cheap $10 "transfer pump" on amazon. I just keep an extra unused hole on top of my rez (5 holes, only 4 plants), and use the pump to transfer water to another tote. It works great, and I can avoid moving the plants or rez lid entirely.

Thank you guys for your help, I really appreciate you taking your time to respond. I eventually found a video, perfect for me. Really showed me the absolute basics of dwc. I understand now.

I decided to build a multisite cloner this first go around.

Next week I will build a two basket dwc with a top feed. Airwalker16 tbh I had no idea what it was you were implying with the sprinkler idea, even with the simple pics, now I totally understand. We would have to sprinkler spraying the roots. It's genius. I may just stick with the top feed only this go around tho.

I have a few potential bag seed mothers. Sprouted around 14 plants weeks back. Have been trying to clone and sex the plants to weed out males and have had a 0% clone success rate

Funny shit happened yesterday tho. Had 6 cuttings in peat pods. I had been spraying and spraying and spraying these cuttings everyday for 7 or 8 days. Then the cuttings started stiffening up. Started reading online and came across something that says you're supposed to let the cuttings breathe after 5 days or so. So by day 8 I guess I had been suffocating my cuttings. I tried to ween them off the dome. They wilted the first time I left the dome off for about an hour and they hadn't wilted. Came back in the room later that day they wilted.

So I left the dome cracked they kind of recovered the next day. Left it cracked for about two days

Left it cracked another night this time with the dome cracked a little more. They wilted by the next morning

So I got pissed and covered them. Haven't sprayed or touched them since. Yesterday, just as I finished the cloner, went to throw away the cuts and what do I see? Roots in 5 of them

Only one is a for sure girl, she came off a Baggie plant that showed her sex a few weeks back. 3 total have shown female sex. One plant has been revegged and brought back to life after harvest. That's 15 plants. Another has been kept after harvest and had a tiny sprout sticking out after weeks of revegging. By simply watering and sticking the remaining stump under 18/6. This will be 16.

The 5 cuttings are shriveled and look very bad, I don't expect any to live but they are still green for the most part, and only one has appeared to wilt. They have been potted in 100% perlite.

But with this cloner I have built I feel as if I will be able to accomplishment my goals. I will only need 1 mother for the most part so the females will be selected for potency might keep two total. May try to mix some together.

Yesdog thank you for showing me that siphon I will need one

Clones are supposed to yellow man. Means they're taking root. Just let them be and start feeding them 1/8-1/4 strength nutes now.

I actually decided to trash them. They looked too poor and I need the space and resources for hear cuttings I'm working on now

One question I have now is what type of nutes and other additives I will need for the new cuttings

My previous grows have all been with me using ff trio of nutes. Will grow big big bud and tiger bloom still be acceptable for dwc? I'm assuming so, but at the same time I need more bottles, mine are almost empty, so this would be the time to switch if need be. What else can u add to water? I expect to also purchase protekt as my ph up I've never used silicate before.

I didn't like how I need to add additional calmag to ff nutes. But if I must I will. Bought botanicare Calmag last time.

So what should I get this week? Ff trio, botanicare calmag, protekt? Does this sound good

i'd go with dyna gro protekt, foliage pro, and any brand cal/mg if needed. keep it simple.

^ follow what this guy said, but if you are going to do hydro then add in some Dyna Gro Bloom and Mag-Pro during flower (I never need calmag with the Dyna Gro line, but mag-pro is supposed to be good during flower)

Hi. Are you saying to add protekt, foliage pro and calmag to the ff nutes? Or are you suggesting u go with dyna gro nutes plus these additives? Reason why I'm asking is because I did some searches and most ppl wouldn't do ff in dwc.

And foilage pro seems to have a good amount of nutes in it, enough to make me think that I would only need to use that alone for veg

Dyna Gro Foliage Pro is your nutes and ProTekt is used as a silicon supplement (look up the benefits of adding silicon to your regimen). Together they are an awesome pair. Also, adding protekt to your reservoir actually keeps your ph more stable for a longer period.

Drop the FF.

It's been 14 days. No roots

Fucked around and made the same exact mistake with the dome smothering my cuts.. I weened my clones of the dome and had to cut a little off of a few of them, but they still look ok all of them. I don't see any sign of roots

I used regular tap water and some drops of rapid start inside the tub

I didn't ph the water

Still no roots. Changed the water phd it to 5.5. Added plastic slips to cover the sponges too I used piece of sponge to hold the cuts and they weren't light proof so I covered them with black plastic

The clone are still alive some I had to trash some due to discovering balls on the father plants. I cut some other cuts because I like to try and cut once a week and I had ten in a dome they all fell days later. Had three I left open without a dome they have been green for two weeks now with no sign of root. Tried about 7 more last week without a dome and only two left green and alive I don't know why they died

I don't know how many times I've cried

I can't clone I don't understand what hell im doing but I refuse to give up

@Reggie Jr. - dude, go to google and look up ice tube cloner - you use an ice tube tray for making ice cubes made to fit into water bottles. You but them at walmart. buy you some vermiculite and and drill small holes in the bottom of the ice tubes. use a tupperware container and put in a little bit of water to make it go about 1/8-1/2 inch of water to allow the ice tubes full of vermiculite to bottom water. this has worked for me 100 percent of the time. it's so simple and no dome or nutrients needed. i don't even ph the water.
