Bugs or birds?

I woke up in the morning, heard something scratching on the balcony and when i came out i saw something had snapped a few fanleaves.. its a pretty clean cut almost into the stem, only a little stalk of the fanleave left.
What could it be? got any clue?

maybe a rodent of some sort..... rats, mice, squirrel, chipmunk, maybe a raccoon, what's in your area?

ooh. its mice here, and rats, and squirrels and birdnest under the top of the roof,. but it's most truly a squirell or bird, cus rats and mice would have trouble getting there.
