Breeding question! ^_^

Basement breeders?

Always making weak and unstable genetics.......

Just crossing with out back crossing? How many plants used? Best pheno's?

A true breeder uses HUNDREDS of clones to pick his breed stock.
He back crosses to stabilize and knows how and why.
Very correct, however many people have this hobby. Not everyone can have room to grow out the HUNDREDS of plants needed to really find something to select from. Some of us are in states still governed by dickeads and immoral laws which drastically limit the # of plants it is "safe" to grow. Everyone can make their own viable seeds, and ime good results (ie- viable beans) can be obtained by a novice grower who isn't a "breeder" @ all. I simply "selected" the 2 best phenos from only 10 plants. Naturally, this isn't breeding, or even (really) selecting, However I ended up with many viable beans which actually displayed the traits I was hoping to obtain: (orange taste/ smell /pink pistils). I can't remember how often they showed up, but most had the orange smell and (a few) had the pink pistils. The smoke from some phenos was FANTASTIC, leaving experienced heads "Rippified Mc-Fried" :bigjoint: You are right, it's not breeding, but it sure is fun :leaf:

i have a touch of ocd when it comes to buying seeds, everytime i buy a pack of f1 hybrids i get my best 2 and cube them, plant afew to make sure they are stabilized and then put those seeds in the freezer.. i dont know why but when i plant a seed i dont want to guess at what the outcome will be so i have 100;s of stabilized seeds in the freezer and still have about 30 strains that i need to stabilize,,lots of time and work ahead..but i like knowing that the strains i have stabilized i can use for breeding or i know what the female will look like, taste like and yield like no guessing.

I dig that man! I figured if i crossed the GA with the PK it also keeps the color of its purple hues, by breeding these I would like to get something special I have been experimenting with Tiresias Mist and just found nanners!

Your "nanners" problem can be from two things.

1: A case of instability, most likely from an unstable parent.
Solution: Stabilize the parents by weeding out those that produce the "nanners" trait by breeding those that don't.
(the seeds you used to breed with were unstable from the source. Sadly rather common to some seed producers.)

2: Stress, Imperfect environmental conditions in bloom. Most likely a temp issue. (common cause !)

Note: When running a breeding program,,,,,,,DO NOT "push" your plants by using extra P or K, or high strength nutrient feed in bloom as you might for "production" plants. Give them what they "need" to have and no more! The less stress you cause will go MILES to great results.

Note: I think some one stated above that many seed producers don't fully stabilize their for sale strains. For few this may be true. BUT, for most they do. When you have a case of several pheno's from a strain. It is most likely from the use of pure or very close to pure strains in the breeding program. These throw many traits and even when "cubed" these now "stable" strains can and do at times, throw out a few differing pheno's. Some may display a more Indica trait and some a more Sativa trait. These variations can be expressed by coloring in parts of the plant, height of the plant, bud structure, and strength or type of high. Not to mention smell.

Any real breeding program takes TIME and PATIENCE to reach your goal......If you don't have those,,,,,,,maybe breeding is not for you.
Above all, try it if you feel the need. Just don't hand out your mistakes or unwanted results to others should be a rule to follow.

GOOD LUCK!!!

I tried for a few years to get a cut of "Blue Magoo" from the Pac North West. Now some breeder is listed as working on it to produce seed form from the parents of the cutting only cross. Oddly enough he appears to be having stabilization problems as this has been going on longer then he expected. He has other beans crossed with some of the work on the Blue Magoo, but no Blue for sale yet.

The point being is that he is patient enough to wait for the "success" and not put out an weak product.

BTW, any body willing to part with some Blue Magoo? PM me please.

ive used the rhodilization method a few times with great success before they came out with the feminizing spray or coidal siver...it can take a wile if ur strain is a good one..some strains will throw out a banana if its an 8 week strain itll banana in like 10 weeks... but really good strains can take longer but thats good it means the plant is not prone to herm..i had a northern lights that normaly finished in 8 weeks and left it in flower for 124 days before i got a banana most of the bud n leaves were worthless but i pollenated another nl with the pollen and it was identical to the mother and all feminized seeds that would never herm out unless left for 124 days which i wouldnt do again..but most strains will throw out pollen sooner than that, its a good technich as ur not using chemicals its all natural... just wanted to say your lucky with the color, ive bought several strains that were supose to be purple or black and have only had 1 that actually had color.. and blueberry,,,ive had several strains and havnt had 1 cure to a lavender blue yet and those seeds were pricy i paid 25 bucks a piece for the dj shorts blueberry seeds and no color...pisses me off when they say what a strain should look like and its completely diferent.
