Breeding question! ^_^

Been trying to get my hands on a true cali O for years!
Hey CC- I'm not sure if it's the "true" Cali-O, but I currently have Homegrown Fantaseeds' version. I've always heard good reports about them, unlike Dutch Passions' C.Orange. Nirvana no longer carries this strain, and it's hard to find it in its' pure form (for some reason). I will do a report as soon as I run it- :peace:

Basement breeders?

Always making weak and unstable genetics.......

Just crossing with out back crossing? How many plants used? Best pheno's?

A true breeder uses HUNDREDS of clones to pick his breed stock.
He back crosses to stabilize and knows how and why.

most people dont have room for hundreds of plants.
ive been breeding for a few years, but always use stabilized hybrids, true breeding strain or landraces to cross..
my latest and best creation was taking a BCBD fire og bx3 male and crossed it w/ mr.nice Shit. I call it the fire shit. hybrid vigour, out of the 4 seeds planted 3 were female and all identical. it took the fire og's crystal production smell n taste and the yield and structure from the shit mom. finishes in 8 weeks 1 week faster than the fire og it truly is the fire shit.

ive also done backcrossing, cubeing, and made a few feminized strains.. i normally go out of a pack of 10 seeds find the best female and male. reg people cant aford to buy 100 seeds when its already expensive buying a pack of 10..however if i buy a pack of 10 f1 hybrids i find the 2 best and backcross to sabilize before i breed and in that process i can end up with hundreds of seeds but i only keep the finished stabilized seeds for future breeding or if i get a plant i really like i feminize her and make s1 seeds.

Oh I truly understand the cost issue's with seed buying. Space and time is another issue.
The point to what your doing is ........ your stabilizing your crosses,,, at least you should be doing that for all of them!

If not, they will backslide to the most dominate pheno of the cross.

can you give more info about this?
in order for your seeds to be uniform((the same)) you must use the same pollen of a desireable male and inbreed it with its own seeds 3-4 times is normally ok its called cubeing when u backcross a male with its daughter, then plant those seeds find best female back cross it, plant seeds back cross best female again all useing that same males pollen after 3-4 generations all seeds will be the same or uniform if u did it right.

Mmm, I knew someone would ask. That's a long story !

Here, let me suggest this book to not just answer your question, but to answer the inevitable follow-up questions!

This is a pretty damn good resource.

This maybe a hard read, but you should read it! It will cover all the aspects of what your trying to do, how to do it and why.

On this site is a great breeding forum that you can turn to for help AFTER you read that book !

Please spend the dime and get the book. Read it, and read it again if need be!

Good luck.

That's the short version that will still leave questions.

Read the book and know why your doing the things that need to be done!

Knowledge is POWER!!!!!

once u have cubed it they are stabilized, then if you cross it with another stabilized strain u get f1 hybrids which display hybrid vigour they grow aprox, 25% faster and larger than a normal seed

ive read several books on breeding, even after all that, sometimes u end up guessing what to do with certain phenios that tern up.. all the females and males u use in breeding must have all the qualities your looking to breed into or out of the strain so choose your males and females carefully or you could end up with 20 seeds and 20 diferent plants..

That goes into WHAT strains you choose to start a program with!

Example: A pure strain to a pure strain cross will produce seeds that are all over the place in traits/pheno's. You now have say 100 plants from those seeds that only a few will be the "same". This is expressed by the "hidden" traits in pure/landrace strains.

You tend to have less variation by breeding "crosses".

Again, ALL this is covered in that book.....READ IT!
