Hay a mates just purchased the phytomax-2 1000w any thoughts on these or any one running them said he payed just under $4000 seems a lot must b the real deal

I don't use them. But for the price. They would want to be good.

If you're curious. Or DIY savvy. You could build a COB array for less. And get better spread.

not really the best way to look at a light

he could have yielded about the same with a DE HPS at a little over 1/10th of the cost and got the same 1.53 umol/J to his plants

a equally silly way to look at it is how much money is he losing as compared to buying and running ( 8 )1000W DEs instead?

Well, we all have to thank your mate. Because if it wasn't for guys like him, who else would pay for LED development?

For US$3000 retail in the States, I can easily see how he paid A$4000 over here.

I'm sure it can grow buds, but I like how they try to justify the price by quoting "return on investment" (ROI) when, as CobKits rightly pointed out, you could buy a shed-load of HPS or LED strip/panel/COB lights for that sort of money and increase your yields 8-fold. Plus, it will likely be obsolete in a couple of years or less.

I guess for that sort of money I would want a dedicated flowering spectrum, as most serious growers tend to have dedicated flowering/veg chambers with different lights to suit. It seems like a lot money for a hobby grower who vegs and flowers under the same light . . .

Other than that, I'm sure we'd all be interested to see how it grows if he (or you) want to post up some results here.

Will do man this light is just for flowering still got MH in veg tent put a few in there a couple of weeks ago I’ll get some pix

Mate, the way I see it, prices are only going to go down, and performance is only going to go up with these things - but you have to start somewhere. There will always be a market for ready-made LEDs, as very few people have the time or inclination to build their own.

I'm sure he'll get good results. There are plenty of ways to skin a cat. Some more expensive than others ;)

video is a bit dated but most of the commercial fixtures have been in the 1.1-1.5 umol/J range for last few years. most good cob lights (diy and prebuilt) are 1.6-2.0 umol/J at system level
