[h=1]L.A. woman commits suicide with chainsaw, police say.[/h]
A Los Angeles woman killed herself with a chainsaw, police said Thursday.
Police reported to the 3600 block of Keystone Avenue in Palms about 12:40 a.m. Thursday, after the victim’s sister arrived and called 911, said LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman. She described the victim as being in her mid-40s, adding that fire officials say the body's decomposition indicates she may have been dead for as long as a day. “Two sisters, they share an apartment,” Eisenman said. “The door [to the victim’s room] was jammed a little, and the sister was able to see her on the bed with a chainsaw next to her.”Eisenman said the case was initially labeled as a possible homicide, but that changed when investigators found a suicide note.Los Angeles County coroner’s spokesman Larry Dietz said a coroner’s official is still at the scene and his office has no additional information at this time.

NEW YORK -- A New York City woman is trying to unwind an identity fraud in which someone used her birth certificate to arrange bogus marriages to at least three men from other countries.
Anna Vargas found out about the fraud when she applied for a marriage license in 2004 and was turned down on the grounds that she was already married.
One of her supposed husbands, from Ecuador, sued for divorce in 2009, before realizing she wasn't the same person he wed in 1996.
A judge nullified two of the marriages in January. Vargas is still working to erase another one on New York's Long Island.

BAY NEWS 9, SARASOTA -March 16th, 2012 – Family and friends are remembering a Sarasota girl who was kidnapped and killed more than eight years ago. In February 2004, 11-year-old Carlie Brucia was kidnapped outside of a car wash. Her abduction was caught by a surveillance camera. Her body was found at a nearby church days later. Friday would have been Carlie’s 20th birthday. “She would have been a young woman ready to start her journey and ready to start a family,” said Joe Brucia. “I could have had grandchildren by now. There could have been a lot of things.”

Carlie was Brucia’s only child. He said while he’ll never get over this loss, he said the garden along with the community’s kindness helps him cope. Brucia and everyone involved with the garden hope their efforts not only keep Carlie’s memory alive, but also serve as a safety reminder to other children. They hope others will remember to be careful of their surroundings to prevent from what happened to Carlie from happening to them.

“Maybe it makes that one or two kids think,” said Brucia. “Maybe it will get them out of situation that happened to Carlie.” Joseph Smith was sentenced to death for the kidnapping, sexual assault and first degree murder of 11-year-old Carlie Brucia. His attorneys have filed an appeal and are seeking a new trial because they claim that the FBI mishandled DNA evidence….MORE FROM THIS SOURCE

Jesus...he will get his, though. You can be sure of that. Nothing higher on the 'please rape and murder me brutally' list in prison than a child rapist/murderer.

Oops, he's on death row. Less raping/brutality but more death. Bummer.

[h=2]National Security Agency plan was banned by Congress years ago[/h]

By Neal Colgrass, Newser Staff

Posted Mar 17, 2012 4:16 PM CDT

(Newser) – Looks like Congress can't stop the NSA from monitoring every nook and cranny of our lives after all. In an explosive feature in Wired, James Bamford reveals that the National Security Agency has revived a program called "Total Information Awareness," which aims to collect and sift through every electronic communication around the world. Yep, that includes those made by Americans—even though Congress passed legislation in 2003 to stop "TIA" from spying on US citizens.
Three covert sources tell Bamford that the NSA's planned information center in Utah will use a network of satellites to monitor every email, break any encryption, and eavesdrop on any phone call—even land-line calls. “We are, like, that far from a turnkey totalitarian state,” a source tells Bamford. Other recent NSA news was possibly leading up to this: A whistleblower accused of leaking classified information to a reporter eventually pleaded guilty last year in a misdemeanor plea deal. Hat tip to RawStory for the link.

FOLKSTON, Ga. -
It wasn't an earthquake that rattled windows and store shelves early, but residents across Southeast Georgia heard and felt something big Thursday morning.

"My wife and I, we heard this loud noise -- this booming noise," said Officer Todd Rhodes of the Brunswick Police Department. "It was a noise that literally shook our home." When Rhodes got to work, he learned his 911 center was swamped with calls of people with similar reports. "Everyone was very concerned," Rhodes said. "There was some panic there because you know when you hear that noise as far-reaching as it was, and not only hearing it but feeling it, you want to know, 'What is this?'"

Reports came in to Channel 4's newsroom from Nahunta to Folkston about a loud noise and buildings shaking between 8:15 and 8:30 a.m.

"Up at City Hall, they said they felt something shake," said Folkston resident Ericka Smith.

The Georgia State Patrol says they received calls from Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Glynn and McIntosh counties asking about the boom and rumble. The manager at Satilla Grocery in Waynesville reviewed surveillance video that showed the building shaking. "Next thing I know we just hear this big old rattle," Deanna Brower said. "The doors here rattled really hard, and we thought maybe somebody had actually hit the doors or something."

The U.S. Geological Survey said there was no indication of a earthquake in the area, but had hear reports of either a sonic boom or other event that cause the ground to rumble.

Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay said they were not conducting any operations that would have caused a sonic boom or explosion.

No need to freak out. There were two military jets in the area at the time and the story goes they never went fast enough to create a sonic boom. Riiiight. Probably a couple of top gun fanatics.

The local tv news showed a bright light near ground level. I grew up near a military airport and that was not a sonic anything.

Don't get creeped out if you're surrounded by unearthly glowing spots during a midnight swim. Scientists say it's a completely natural biological (albeit eerie) phenomenon. In recently released photos from the Maldives on the National Geographic's website, the shoreline surf is dotted with tiny pinpricks of light, seeming to reflect the constellations above. This "bioluminescence" is simply blue light from phytoplankton, microscopic sea creatures that secrete illuminating chemicals as a survival mechanism. Tweeps are calling the marine spectacle "amazing" and "awesome" -- though we'd like to know how many would actually dive in for a romp with the light-emitting organisms.

If I found that while swimming at night there would obviously be a few glowing spots of man jam in that pic too. Just sayin'. =)

EDIT: who cares if someone watches? Never been to South Beach? Nightly...

Once on a cruise I decided to walk the decks very late at night. I was all alone and went to the back of the ship and I saw that the propeller stirred up the water and the path the ship had taken was glowing it was stunning.

Then I heard plop, plop, plop and Holland America was dropping the trash off the back of the boat. Ruined the whole moment.

Once in my life, after a storm on a mid'Lannic beach, i saw that. It was glorious. i swam in clouds of stars and ran barefoot upon the Galaxy.

But what is a tweep? It sounds like an impolite body sound. cn

Tweep? I must be really slow today.
