[h=1]Cops: Gunman robs choir group at church[/h]By msnbc.com staff and news services
Police in Goose Creek, S.C. say a man armed with a shotgun robbed a choir group as they practiced at a church.
According to WCSC in Charleston, authorities responded to the St. James United Methodist Church around 8 p.m. Wednesday after reports of an armed robbery.
One of the victims told police that a man entered the church through an unlocked door and aimed a shotgun toward the choir area, WCSC reports. According to the station, the suspect then told the choir to get on the floor and keep their heads down.
The robber made off with purses, wallets and cell phones from the choir members. No one was hurt, WSOC-TV reports.

Investigators say the suspect is a black male between 5'10" to 5'11 and 230 pounds.
The robber escaped on foot. Police are continuing the investigation.

There's something spooky about this excuse.

Rather than say "The Devil made me do it," a Wisconsin man arrested on domestic abuse charges told police that a ghost punched his wife, authorities said.

Police responded to the disturbance call at approximately 8 p.m., Sunday, according to a Fond du Lac County Sheriff's report obtained by The Smoking Gun. At the scene they found 41-year-old Michael West and his wife, who told cops that her husband twice attempted to strangle her and struck her in the face when she attempted to contact 911.

West told authorities that his wife sustained injuries as a result of several falls, The Northwestern reports. When an officer pressed the issue, West allegedly changed his alibi, opting instead for a supernatural excuse -- "A ghost did it."
"It must not have been Casper," HyperVocal quips. "He's way too friendly to do such a thing to a working woman with a drunk, abusive husband."

West is charged with domestic abuse, strangulation, battery, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. He remains in custody in lieu of $1,000 bail.

The 3 and a half inch nail pulled from a Chicago man's head turned doctors at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., into heroes -- and made for an amazing X-ray.

Dante Autullo thought he'd merely cut himself while building a shed. It wasn't until he was taken to the hospital the next day that he realized that he'd accidentally shot himself in the skull with a nail gun, according to the Associated Press.
"When they brought in the picture, I said to the doctor `Is this a joke? Did you get that out of the doctors joke file?'" the 32-year-old recalled. "The doctor said 'No man, that's in your head.'''
The X-ray revealed that the shot was just millimeters away from the section of the brain that controls the motor functions, according to Fox News.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/24/beer-can-hoarder-home-burns-in-fire-tempe-arizona_n_1228558.html Firefighters in Tempe, Ariz., were unable to save a burning home after they arrived to discover the living room floor was covered by "over two feet of crushed beer cans," My Fox Phoenix reports. In what authorities are calling a hoarding case, the two-story wood frame home built in the 1940s went up in flames, with firefighters saying debris made the situation too dangerous to do their job. "Firefighters had to break their way through the front door ... they couldn't even open it. There was so much beer cans and all that on the floor," Tempe Fire Department investigator Michael J. Reichling told My Fox Phoenix. "They made entry with a line to do a search and rescue, which is our first priority ... they got to the bottom of the stairs and couldn't go up the stairs. In addition to more than 1,000 beer cans, officials told the station old newspapers had been collected inside the house, making it all the more combustible. Speaking with the Arizona Republic, Reichling further described the situation. "Aluminum cans were stacked two to three feet deep. Cardboard, newspapers and 12-pack beer cases were smashed down and stacked to the ceiling," Reichling told the paper. "Our crews had to climb over this to get in. We had to evacuate and not do a search and rescue." Fire Department officials said they believe the blaze may have been started by a space heater left running by a resident of the home. S teel safety bars that had been installed on all the home's windows created another hindrance to firefighting efforts, according to KTVK. The homeowner, however, has denied charges that he is hoarder, telling KTVK that he was simply "holding on to" the beer cans. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, though the house was completely destroyed.

Ossian, N.Y. -- State Police say an eight-year-old girl suffered scrapes and bruises from being dragged by a Dansville Central School bus.

It happened Wednesday afternoon in the town of Ossian, in Livingston County. Troopers say the driver, 62-year-old John Coley, told them he was not paying attention when the girl got off the bus, and closed the door too soon. It trapped her backpack.

Haley Heath was dragged about 900 feet before the bus stopped. She was taken to Noyes Hospital in Dansville.

State Police said Coley would not be charged because it was an accident.

The Dansville Central School District said Coley was placed on administrative leave and has a clean driving record from his eight years as a bus driver.

"We are very fortunate and very thankful that this brave little girl walked away from the accident," Schools Superintendent Dr. Paul Alioto said in a news release.

A boy on the bus heard Haley screaming for help, ran up and told the bus driver to stop. State Police say the force of the sudden stop injured Michael Thomas' eye when he slammed into a seat.

A mother of another 6-year-old boy on the school bus told 13WHAM News that she knew something was wrong when her son didn't get dropped off after school at his usual time.

She also hopes the injured girl, Haley, is doing ok today.

"I'm thankful to god that she's okay but can you imagine how traumatized this girl is right now?," Iny Kring had a son on that school bus. "I can't and if I was her mom I don't know how I would be reacting right now."

Dansville Central School District said it would retrain its bus drivers this week to make sure there is 15-feet between the bus and a person outside to make sure this kind of incident doesn't happen again.

Why is this moron driving a school bus?

(Newser) – You may want to break out the tissues before you read on. There are love stories and then there are love stories, and such is the tale of Richard and Nancy Trimmer, who were married 61 years—and died on Sunday, within 12 hours of each other. The Evening Sun reports that the Pennsylvania couple learned that 81-year-old Richard had lung cancer in November; he was given six months. After a fall, he was taken to York Hospital, and his wife didn't react well.
"She didn't want to be in the house without him," explains the couple's daughter-in-law. "It was all just getting too hard, so God took care of it." Nancy was soon hospitalized in a separate location for lingering issues from a 10-year-old heart surgery. At 12:25am Sunday, she died. When the family arrived at Richard's bedside to break the bad news, they discovered him in far worse condition than usual—and the clock in his room stuck at 12:25. His family stayed with him as he repeatedly said, "Pull me up." And then, "Hold me tighter now." And then he was gone.
So awesome.

PANAMA CITY, Fla. - A Florida teenager called 911 to ask police to place her in a children's shelter because she "heard her mother having sex."
The 15-year-old girl felt disrespected when overhearing her mother having sex late one night, so she called Panama City Police Department to report the situation, The Smoking Gun first reported on its website.
When police arrived at the home in the early hours on Jan. 19, the girl's mother explained that she was with her boyfriend and did not intend to wake her daughter. But their bedrooms are right next to each other, according to the police report, which was obtained by FOXNews.com.
At some point, the mother and daughter had an argument, the police report said.
The teen, who told police that there was no abuse, originally asked to be taken to the Hidle House, a temporary home for children who are homeless or abused. But after speaking with a representative, she decided it was almost time for school and decided to stay put.
A domestic rights brochure was left for the family, the police report said.

Really? Omg that poor woman. Sort of related: I was in a very long line at the bank. In front of me was a woman and her 4 year oldish kid. The kid is trying to swing on the velvet ropes that form the line queue. The mother repeatedly tries to stop him and when he finally knocks one down. She yanks him by his arm and says in his face, "Stop it right now!" he boy says, "Oww you're hurting me!" the mom says tightening her grip, "Behave!" and the boy yells at full volume, "Leggo of me or I will tell everybody I saw you with Daddy's pee pee in your mouth!!" . . . .dead silence. . .no one knew what to do. . . the horrors of motherhood--lol

The animal – thought to have mostly died out roughly 4,000 years ago – was apparently filmed wading through a river in the freezing wilds of Siberia. The jaw-dropping footage was caught by a government-employed engineer last summer in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug region of Siberia, it is claimed.

Story found here.

I don't think I could have held it together if I had been in that line. That's just too damn funny.
