I thought that was the missile range in question, thanks for confirming. Few know how important that phase of our rocket history was.

You should totally take a trip out to see the trinity site if you haven't already. From high up you can see a very clear ring of distinction in the color of the mesquite bushes that grow there. The McDonald ranch house is still standing to it was very very close to the detonation but you know radiation never hurt anyone anyways. :-?

Before someone crawls up my butt for being a trophy hunter, I'll qualify this by saying I'm a meat hunter. I utilize every animal I harvest & if it happens to have nice horns or antlers then its a bonus. I've fed my family for over 25 years mostly on wild game & I have to say we eat good !
Here is a couple shots from last fall - the moose has a 46" spread (not a monster but Lots of fantastic eating). My Dall sheep is 36" with 13" bases and talk about tasty - some of the best meat you've ever eaten.
We'll start with that.
Peace
Does moose and sheep meat smoke well? Like pork or beef brisket? If so, I'm in.

Been doing a couple small-time BBQ cooking competitions. So I know those portos.

They sure come in handy, yes?

Came to make a hog hunt later this afternoon and in the morning, was met by this rattler.
Had to almost choke out my dog to get him away from the sucker.
Used a shovel to make the kill. Gunna skin and eat it
That sir is a respectable Canebrake there my friend.
I've eaten several diamondbacks & they were really good - just not much meat there.

Moose smokes pretty well (I'm an amateur in that arena) but I'd never sacrifice a scrap of Dall - the stuff is simply too good as steaks and VERY difficult to get.

What up guys?

Some of you know and seen some of my game. I'll dig around for some pics.

@GreatwhiteNorth If someone gets mad at a trophy kill then I explain it to them logically.

If it is a trophy it is a larger animal, more meat. Its at the end of its prime, plenty of time to have bred and passed genetics on.

Some say trophy hunting. I say it is management hunting.

It is legal to hunt deer over a feeder or plot here. We set one up. A buddy of mine said it wasn't fair.

I told him it was. Don't get me wrong, I love a good stalk hunt and being fair to the animal. The reason we decided to hunt like that here is to be able to select what we kill and actually grow bigger and better numbers of deer.

I also want to say something about this. Big game in Africa. Yea, probably won't eat a lion and I wouldn't kill one. On the other hand those are some of the poorest countries in the world. The ones that allow legal hunting take that money and hire game officers and actually have better animal populations.

I'm OK with them letting some rich guys kill a few to protect the rest.

For those that don't know you can thank your federal parks to a hunter. Private hunting clubs do more for animals than any animal rights groups. Private hunting groups have bought millions of acres worldwide to set up game reserves.

In the USA hunters pay for fish and game officers.

If it were not for hunters animals would be worse off.

I also feed my family with what I hunt and I strive for a quick humane kill.

Sorry for the rant.

looks more timber to me... canes are pretty dark in these parts... the timbers are the more yellow/cream color, canes are dark, nearly black. they do hybridize, but the hybrids just look like dark timbers...
