BHO Shatter VS Rosin

Ok im kind of embarassed to admit.....
But ive never smoked rosin.......& im really curious about what the hype is....

Ive been blowing & smoking my own bho shatter....... But after seeing these youtube videos about the rosin press & all, im thinking of investing in 1 after the outdoor season..... My question is........is it really worth it?
A freind of mine (which is also a long time shatter user), is telling me not to buy into the hype....."its over rated, & tastes like shit!" is actually the term he used when describing.....bug hes also known to be EXTREMELY biased in his opinions.

So im trying to figure this out myself. The bho weve been blowing is comming out super light/clear, resembling a honey color..... Also, with the majority of what we blow, you can "taste & smell" the terps in your product.
Is this the same story as with rosin? I like the idea of producing solvent free concentrates without spending close to 80grand on the equipment.....

Thoughts?

Rosin > BHO

In MY opinion, ANY solvent-based extract is yesterday's news...Even when you have the best extracting equipment available -state of the art stuff in other words, you're still going to get residual solvents...no need for it anymore. It's over.

...BUT, rosin is very easy to make...anyone can do it...no fancy equipment is needed...no solvents are needed...no fire-hazard...And once you get your temperature and technique dialed in (very short learning curve), you can be dabbing the tastiest full-melt extract you've ever imagined. I'm quite sure there will be those who disagree with me....probably people who have invested themselves in BHO....but I live in a legal state and I have tried it all....Rosin is the king of concentrates, now...as far as I'm concerned. I can buy professionally-made rosin or make it myself and it's miles better than the best BHO...and I don't even have any fancy rosin press...I just put a couple flat metal plates in my oven, heat them up and then press them in my bench vice. Since I already had all the junk laying around, my investment in the equipment was $0.00! Can't beat that price! I want to eventually get a pneumatic press from Harbor Freight and maybe invest in some good heating plates. I think I could put something together for relatively low-cost...certainly much, much less than a tamesium extractor!

I used to make bubble hash with variable results...usually getting a percentage of full-melt quality from each run...but, also a LOT of additional, low-quality from the larger mesh bags, too...Let me tell you...just this last week, I took my stash or low-quality, no-melt bubble hash and made rosin from it....the resulting rosin is totally full-melt and tastes great. So, what WAS going to be just something I was going to use to make baked goods with, is now being dabbed on my titanium ladle!
So...Rosin > BHO -any day of the week...hands down!

Those are MY thoughts on the subject.

Actually there are no more dispensaries in operation here. Everything is recreational. I have seen "wanted" ads for licensed processors who make rosin. Rosin is the future of concentrates, in my opinion. It's just so damn clean. The trick is to get the heat as low as possible in addition to increased pressure. That's why pneumatic presses are being converted left and right! There are places already that make/sell just the heating plates, alone. Or, you can make small batches with a hair straightener (check YouTube) ...Or, you can buy a pre-fab rosin press that's ready to go....but that would be your most expensive option at the moment.

Go to YouTube and search "Rosin Press" or "Rosin Tech" and see what kinds of results people are getting!

ROSIN > BHO . Being able to make my own, awesome, concentrate so easily is still a bit mind blowing! I built my press for under $200 with a 12t bottle jack , custom plates and frame.

Fire in = fire out
Love to see that!

And you know...the thing is...you can apply the rosin-making technique to kief, bad-quality bubble hash, good-quality bubble hash, shake, flowers, etc.....You could probably even make AVB into rosin!

EDIT: This technique makes wasting your weed a thing of the past. And my guess is that rosin would be much tastier to make baked-goods with, too (if that's your thing). And...the shelf-life of rosin is much longer than if you tried to store a lot of flower for a really long time...Plus, it takes up less space...less conspicuous. It's a miracle! :)

Example of some Solventless I've made. This press has inspired me to finally just grow my own(one grow under my belt, feelsgood! ). ..single source SHO,can't beat it imo

*1st image is rosin I pressed but I did not grow the flowers*

2nd image is all me
VERY impressed, man! Nice work!!!

And yes, I am a grower (just my own) and rosin IS a grower's dream! That's why I will eventually invest in some good plates and a real press like you did, wsntme!

It seem like you would get more plant matter in rosin then in bho? Whats to filter out inpurities with rosin?
organic impurity vs petro chemical....

you can use screens not unlike bubble bags to filter, though thats just fucking non sense. whats the fucking problem.

I press larger buds, you end up with a cracker that can be pressed further, which I dont bother doing, eaten as an edible or made into an edible as well.. its like comparing the way native americans used all the parts of their kills vs the tar sand refineries and their wasted toxic tailings.

you find you like bho more, feel like thats all you want to smoke? might be something else going on there cowboy.

You can use screens, but I just form my flower into pucks before pressing and that keeps all the plant matter together. You can use you fingers but I like to use an empty medicine container and a calibration weight.

I just big on the taste factor along with harshness. Ive tasted grapefruit kush bho thats retained its grapefruit smell & flavor when smoked......if this is the same case with rosin ....im all in!

When one can smoke/vape anything the market can possibly have to offer, it wouldn't make any sense (to me anyway) to go for anything less than the best. A couple years ago, highly-refined, laboratory-made with SUPER-expensive extraction equipment and laboratory-quality vacuum purgers BHO (not blown in someone's backyard) was THE thing...But there was always that slight bit of concern that, even with all the pro-equipment in the world, there was still residual solvent left over from the process.

And you can forget any kind of homemade BHO, altogether -because it is the dirtiest shit imaginable -and I don't care who you are or how long you've been doing it....makes no difference...If a lab can't make it absolutely pure, then the kid next door who paid $100 for a glass tube and some coffee filters isn't even going to be in the ballpark...You'd probably be better off huffing paint.

That being said, there is nothing (and I do mean nothing) better than to take a seed, plant it, grow it, flower it, dry it, cure it to perfection, make bubble hash or rosin (or BOTH) and then dab it and watch it melt like water on your nail.....then, finally...exhale that pure, full, unadulterated flavor....It's like watching a genie come out of a magic lamp and grant your wishes -nothing but bliss! :)

As far as terpenes/flavors are concerned, solvent-made concentrates have to be purified. In the process of doing that, terpenes are going to be lost. I believe that well-made rosin contains a greater amount of terpenes than BHO.
