The issue with the Appion G5 is not that the seals aren't suitable for butane, it is that the motor is not explosion proof, so if you do have a leak, it could be an ignition source.
Have you heard any incidents of this happening? That scares me!

I know from working where I do some stuff we release thru ex fan has to be scrubbed before it hits the fan. Can anyone say if increasing tube pressure will raise my yield and if so can Ipump outside air in to raise initial pressure b4 adding propellant:fire:

No, or I wouldn't be using an Appion. Leaks tend to be small, so as to never reach the correct air fuel mixture, but the issue isn't to be ignored.

I am going to order a mk3 kit from specialized formulations. In the next day or two.
Any suggestions where people are purchasing a site glass that goes on the top to monitor the butane? I'm not going to ever mess with dry ice so I'm not worried about it breaking from the cold.
Also is the Appion G5 still the preferred recovery pump? Just curious if you found a pump that the seals are rated for butane?
I got my sight glass at brewerygaskets.com but you will have to replace the gaskets it comes with as they are silicone.

Okay so building these are pretty straight forward. I am just stumped on the filling of butane process. What's the best way to go about doing it. What on earth do you tell the nosey ass guy at the airgas supply why you are buying a full tank of butane? I don't want him knowing my business but they are inquisitive down there
If you can't get it from a gas company, you can fill with lighter refill canisters using a refrigerant can tapper.

Longtime lurker here....the Tamisium can be filled with off the shelf butane, then used to extract the remaining oils (for valve lubrication in lighters etc) by running just the butane through an extraction process, then cleaning the collection canister with alcohol or some such afterwards-resulting in a (sort of) home made N-butane. Multiple processes will yield purer butane. Screw 80.00-120.00 and a furled eyebrow.

Just recently built a machine but was not cheap. Works awesome, similar to extractionteks machine but I've used ptfe lined braded hoses, and a catch pit complete with molecular filter to remove water before the refrigeration pump. I'm not too sure if theirs has really been thought over. If you dont do this i've read that it combines with oil under pressure to create an acid that destroys the pump not to mention contamination ( this came from Roger Day who makes the RDA caresaver, he also declined to give a guarantee). Took the pump to bits first (cos i'm like that) and found it to be quite simple(by the way the pump i'm using is the caresaver as its sealed and has a built in oil trap). I'm not completely happy with it as its full of copper pipes which needed to be purged of solder flux and swarf and also I'm not happy with using copper due to possible reactions (although I havent had any problems). The best extraction machine and most knowledge by far has come from skumpharmresearch. big thanks to graywolf.

The machine i have now was my second prototype as the first was a bit industrial looking, just trying the principal really as I'm into extracting all sorts of essential oils.

I also use a stainless gauze sock as this makes filling simpler.

Next plan is to modify this prototype to speed up, automate the process, change a few pipes and add anther spool. The big problem no one tells you about is any material you use is soaking wet after its been flooded and drained and requires considerable temperature controlled heating and time to completely clear of residual gas. so this is why there will be two chambers and only 1 evap pot. plus you need a decent amount of heat(not temperature) to counteract the boiling off of the gas oil solution.

I am also building a small version for those at home (or in their shed) This isnt too far away.

If your in a hurry then get your wallet out but I'm telling you now that the pump alone is £1k, the 316 stainless spool, valves and catchpot/evaporation chamber vac pump filter housing all pressure tested built onto a frame, will set you back a small fortune. I've spent £4k pissing about but could have done it for under 3. I got the valves for 35 each from a mine in aus otherwise they would have been £275 each. Saying that you can use a basic new ss valve in 304 for £20., its just i didnt want to cut ANY corners (boom).

My new device I'll be lucky to make it singly to sell for under 1k and it will only do 200cc volume at a time. the upside will be the target time of 3-5 mins for a complete purged extraction. Thge hardest bit is removal of any residual gas without heating your concretes to lower the vicosity. Only mass production will get it down under £500 and thousands of machines would have to be made to get it same price as a coffee machine.

I dare say I'm not the first to build or own one in the UK as there are a number of companies who make extraction machines based on the SOXHLET process (1870 something) and have been doing so for years. Any messages of patents will be ignored.

I do have the advantage of being a time served engineer and have access to machines of all kinds. Even so its an extremely dangerous piece of kit in the wrong hands. The hardest part will be making this machine safe for joe bloggs who just want to get stoned. Saying that, If your careful its totally safe unlike the open systems which in my opinion are downright crazy and not really helping the ole ozone or the cause

The guy I ordered it for (dispensary employee).. contacted me on Halloween that they finally received the unit...

I texted him a week ago or so, to see if she was ready to use....

He said he needs a few more items and we should be golden...

I've got some flower I've been saving up just for this damn project...lol

As soon as it happens, I'll get some pictures up..
As of now, the Terpenator is at the dispensary owners place.

A good point that recovering the butane from the plant material, is the long pole in the tent! On the Mk IV and V, we can heat and recover them separate from the collection pot.

is that because the reducers are machined for it? could that modification be applied to a mkiiia?

I just picked up a closed loop from a new outfit that is based out of the bay area. Red Beard Extracts/Extractors. Apparently it is based on GW's design with some minor modifications. Best part... they were cheaper than specialized, included more stuff, actually responded to my emails, and were in stock!

We're curious about how many people in the world are running these also. My brother wants to make a lil terp for himself now also, he calculated some astronomical number of what we have spent in butane in just the last few months and is sold! Love the help here at RIU!
What's the capacity of the custom build? all for $2K? i want to pick one up now
 
We've got a Loop Botanicals Recycling Extractor.
It's holds 500+gs and cost less than half of a tamisium...
I've used it quite a few times and have been impressed with the ease of the rig and the heady results it produces.

Excellent and smooth shatter and waxes made from a few different kinds of trim. @5k delivered with a demo and instructions... like I said a few of us went in on it to ease the cost a little and it's been realllly worth it and has almost paid for itself in butane we've been able to recycle with this rig, getting about 75% butane back every time.

That looks like a nice system! Do they make any smaller ones around the size of the tamisium extractor??

And has anyone else seen the sweet leaf V2 that a few people are using?? It has the ability to dewax inline without opening anything up to the outside worls.

Pretty crazy system. Ive seen rump and bret maverick use em and they seem to do the trick. So far same yield has been recorded to my knowledge so its not over dewaxing to the point its trapping the actual oil but not dewaxing too little that theyre getting crazy high yields from not fully dewaxed shit.
