BHO Closed Loop Extraction Questions

Airgas locally requires a registered business and a storefront, which they can visit and inspect, to keep from selling butane to those who would use it for illegal drug extraction.

We use n-Butane in our research company, for plant terpene extraction.
Well I'll not be getting butane like that I guess, I'm in a very unfriendly state as far as medical laws goes.

Ordered a pre fabbed MKIII-lil Terpenator...

Ordered with all the bells and whistles. Whoo whoop....
Yeeeeee....Hashhaha!!!

This bad boy is sick...

I just wanted to report that we went for the most bang for our bucks..
2K...

Okay... It's not mine, but I acted as a representative for my collective in the process of ordering.
My reward for doing the” leg-work” for the dispensary is free access to the extractor when I please, and some extra perks ;)

We ordered an extra column, a second collection vessel in which is stackable..

And last but certainly not least... A lexan lid for purging in the same vessel..
FD?

I am slightly confused on the second stackable collection vessel, the nice young lady I spoke with said it can be used for a separate strain..

If I'm following correctly on comprehension; can I run two batches simultaneously?

Now that I ask that question aloud... I'm guessing this isn't feasible??
As both columns would have to be packed and connected to the same tank?

I'm super excited that we can vacuum purge in our collection vessel..less agitation from transfer, and less loss of yield from transfer.

Sorry, one more question FD...

I Am Reading this correctly in the email I received..
” the lexan lid is available to act as a lid for purging”

Anywho...
Pics/report/product as soon as it arrives.

Thank you FD!!! Thank you,
Sda

sirdabs.. ughmm.. can we please see it :]

Thanks fade I appreciate the info, Glacier tanks is out of order for the spool. I can't find all the parts listed online anyway. I might just buy from you guys instead. I've spent 800$ in butane since starting this thread and another 200$ tomorrow morning.

I'm not a part of Specialized Formulations, but they are having the same problem with Glacier Tanks. Their delivery dates are pretty much based on Glacier shipments for the things that they can't scrounge elsewhere. To cut to the chase, I special ordered what I needed, so that when it arrived, I wouldn't have to be standing there to keep someone else from grabbing it.

Maybe if Mike gets enough back orders, he will increase his order and stocking levels. He has his ear to the beer market, and doesn't really understand ours, despite it having gone viral in the couple of years, since folks have started building Terpenators and creations of their own.

This build is not going well for me... I'm moving in a few weeks and don't have the time to build anything anymore. I've looked at the tamisium and I am not impressed with the sizes they offer. Anyone try the BHOGart? It looks cheap to me...
I'm open to suggestions

What is the problem with the build?

Yeah, that is a general problem right now, with the viral run on parts for recycle systems. Look what FOAF got started.......................

I had to special order my last parts to guarantee that I got them all before someone else did. Part of the problem, is that those selling extractors buy in large quantities when the parts do arrive.

Hey FD, I was wondering your thoughts on a mini home made closed loop system. I was thinking, if you used one of those stainless/aluminum water bottles and fitted an extractor tube on top, (just some stainless pipe) then put a couple valves in it and get another one of the water bottles for the rez. Im not sure how much it could hold and the pressures it can withstand but i think itd be able to fit a couple cans, depending on the size of water bottle you get. Just enough to run a half to a zip every week or two. The products to make one are cheap enough so ill start a thread when i start testing pressures and fittings. Id also need insulation since im using smaller canisters so maybe even a thermos might work for a storage rez. Or a piece of stainless pipe with 2 caps on it and some a valve.

Ive seen that aluminum is not effected by butane according to C&P and think that by exchanging certain parts for other certain parts you might be able to find more of them for a good price haha.

I would personally stick to stainless. I've avoided using aluminum since they found aluminum deposits in Alzheimer patient's brains and couldn't tell if it was cause or effect.

You can build a system capable of holding the pressure that might be generated when things go sideways, or so that it has a means to relieve it. Maybe a light weight system with a pressure relief valve, and provisions for a hose to vent the relief at a safe distance?

I am going to order a mk3 kit from specialized formulations. In the next day or two.
Any suggestions where people are purchasing a site glass that goes on the top to monitor the butane? I'm not going to ever mess with dry ice so I'm not worried about it breaking from the cold.
Also is the Appion G5 still the preferred recovery pump? Just curious if you found a pump that the seals are rated for butane?

As far as type of steel 316 schedulem 80 size is up to output expectations
Schedule 80 will certainly work, but for the kinds of pressures encountered in butane extraction, I use Schedule 10 for the columns and most of the plumbing is Schedule 40.

The issue with the Appion G5 is not that the seals aren't suitable for butane, it is that the motor is not explosion proof, so if you do have a leak, it could be an ignition source.

A CPS TR-21 is faster, in conjunction with a MT-69 aftercooler and about as reliable.

The Caresaver Universal is rated for flammable Hydrocarbons at $2400, and is distributed by Matt Ellis at BHOgart.

A Haskell pneumatic refrigerant pump is also another option, if you have at least a 5 hp screw compressor to drive it. It would be the fastest and most trouble free.
