i cant even use this DIY c02 in my setup BUT i read this whole thread giggling my ass off.
for FUCKS SAKE clonex is saying that the c02 is MINIMAL!!! like minute. lol. like, slight to no readings. LOL.
I just do push ups all day in the closet for my c02. also kinda reminds me of jail.
mybe i'll try this one day. OR just get a tank...
homebrewa! -would it be possible to ferment something that we could in turn drink later? something a bit more quality than bubbas wine?
would something like this be feasible?
what attracts the ants? the c02 or the spilled gear everywhere?

Heat is not a friend of fermentation in regards to a desirable flavor profile. Ales are fermented in the mid to upper 60's which is far too cool for a grow area. UV light and hops don't mix either (ever had a skunky beer in a green bottle?). I suppose if your grow room was in the low 70's, you could get away with mead or wine, but considering the cost and the actual amount of time it's going to ferment, I just don't see the point.
Fermentation is also an endothermic reaction so even if your room was in the low 70's, your 5 gallons of honey or fruit wine would be in the 80's which invites skull-splitting hangovers.
One option would be to ferment your beer/wine in a temperature controlled area with a sterile hose leading the blown off CO2 into your grow area. If your a brewer like me and brew every few weeks anyways, this is an efficient use of the CO2.
Interesting side note, Budweiser captures the CO2 from their fermentations and uses it to force-carb their beers, now that's efficient!

Wlimb, when you say 1 spoon of sugar, is that a tsp, tbsp, cup, etc?
I use a packet of yeast, about 8 cups of water, and 2 cups of brown sugar.
How long does yours last, because it doesn't sound like you use much sugar.

Anyone what is using yeast/sugar for CO2 should really read this article (the link) and then do the math. http://www.hydrofarm.com/articles/co2_enrichment.php
If the article goes over your head here is a simplified formula:
X*.0013 = Y
(Y/8.7)13.2=Z
X=cubic feet of grow room Z = amount of sugar in pounds used per day
So if your room is 4x4x8 then you would want to use a total of 0.25lbs of sugar per day. You should either use a 4 gallon container or four 1 gallon containers for this. Start off with 1lb of sugar per container (or 4lbs in the 4gallon) and add an additional 1/4lb per container every 4 days (or 1lb in the 4gallon). This will keep the area at 1300ppm.
