There is a good COB calculator to calculate PPFD.
My main question is why do people like @Growmau5 use the reflectors over bare if it is better bare?
Still learning optics.
sorry man,you asked why and i gave an answer.i used reflectors for a few reasons, one was people on here saying you dont lose much and might actually gain it back at the bottom of the canopy.plus i seen mau5 using them lol.but then i saw the test results,AND bought a par meter.bare cobs put just as much ppfd on the floor as cobs with reflectors, and in a much more even spread.i see all kinds of hot spots with them on so i pulled em off and was able to raise my plants closer to the lights so win/win imo.only place im using them now is where i want to keep light off the walls in the corners.but anyhow, with the white angelinas on 3590 spaced at 11 inches you have a serious dead spot between cobs down to about 14 inches ,where the beams start to overlap its good again.but i do not see higher numbers on the floor @ 60inches from the cobs.i would not have even checked the floor if i had not read the sphere info.its a lose not a transfer like i thought.

im going off 8% lose i read from sphere tests @PSUAGRO just had done, its in his thread called testing timbers something something something lol.
i was keeping my cobs about 20 inches away from the tops but im running at 12 inches now with no lenses and the plants seem happy as hell.but im running soft @ 1050ma and 1400ma. but i do have some 3590 im running @ 75w each and they are only about 18 inches off the tops of that plant and looking goood around week 4 maybe 5

because none of us really knew how much light got lost on optics/reflectors untill we saw the sphere #'s from @PSUAGRO. tests.it showed like 8% losses for angelinas.since that test i have removed all but 4 of mine from 40 cobs lol.i got a bunch i will sell cheap hahaha
Dang I'm taking mine off 8% is way too much to be loosing! 3% was ok but eh I'll just run the light closer lol

How much loss is there by having a larger light spread than canopy?
I mean if I remove the reflectors which is sort of focusing the light down towards the plants, to not focusing the light but having it go where the plants are not??? Gotta be more loss there???

From what I can see you remove the reflectors and move the light closer.
Loose about 10% total.
Ill be selling of my brand new reflectors and holders.

Update on PPFD with and without Reflectors

source: @Rahz thanks mate

Best seems to be 10" Bare and 11" 90 degree.

There are certain applications for both reflectors and non.

Hope this clears some things up.
I will do a side by side in flower with reflectors vs none.

Well...
I read your new thread on reflectors and have made no decision.
I will remove the reflector in the center cob in the 5 cob tent. It is arranged in an X pattern and the center cob is the one I will bare.
