Beginning Stages of PC Case Grow

Hey everyone!

Been a little since I posted, but I've been doing some research on the whole Micro/stealth grow stuff and I have finally decided that I need to do this! I work in the computer industry and locating an old server kinda just fell into my lap. The main reason I like this case, is because the front has a functional lock which has to be removed in order to gain access to the side access itself.

Of course if you 'really' want to get in you can, but might be a deterrent for those 'nosy' friends haha. This isn't a 'this must be stealth' situation but sometimes out of sight ... out of mind.

My question, the interior has an opening 14" deep, 10" wide and 14" tall - is this going to be enough room to really be worth the trouble? If I remove the existing metal ( pop riveted, going to be a pain haha ) it will give me a clearance of 23 inches deep, 10 inches wide and 17 inches tall. Height would be a nice increase and I might be able to manage that easier - but is it really worth tearing down the existing casings for the extra depth? I plan on going with a single plant.

The reason I ask - with the power supply removed there is an opening large enough to put in a decent exhaust fan - as well as the large existing exhaust fan but as a bonus, in the front bottom portion there is yet another fan - perhaps I can set it up as an intake fan or is that overkill?
- - Main point ( sorry for the scenic tour to the point ) if I scrog, I understand depth is important, but nearly 2x's height?

Long story short - to cut or not to cut!? : )

Thank you in advance everyone!

Well you gotta keep in mind that you have the pots plus the light above so thats more space taken up right there.

I would also take out the skeleton cages in the case. Therell be so much more space that you cant see right now. When are you startin a baby? If soon we can do ours parallel and compare different things lol

I am getting everything ready this week, hope to start germinating late this week or early next week. Going to remove the skeleton portions hopefully tonight and get things moving. I would love to compare/contrast during the process!

Hello,
I can not see attachments. Anyway, I wanted to say that you can remove all unused the existing metal very simple with a polish machine.
I have attached for you 2 images: how my pc grow box looks and how the plant looks (last one from today).

One of the great things about working in the computer industry - people always want to get rid of their old 'big' equipment. Ended up acquiring a RS/6000 server - and I think I have found the new home for my upcoming project. I still need to finish taking the mother board mount and drive bay slots out - but thats todays project! : ):blsmoke:

I ended up buying a 125w VitaLume 6400k light and after connecting it to the socket, its 17 inches long! So, I figured that in the other case it would 'fit' but its going to be pretty snug. With this case, it is 27 inches long, 10 inches wide and 24 inches tall and since it was a server, the front scsi drive bays give a great area to pull clean air from - I think this setup will do much better! But, that also comes to my next question, what do you all think? Should I pick up some extra lights also? In this larger case, should I LST or Scrog or another method?

As always, thanks everyone!

Almost have the interior cage pulled out. Thought I had an angle grinder - nope. Thought I had a 3/16 drill bit - nope. So, when in doubt go back to what you know - Go Marine Corps angry on it haha! Ended up using a dremel and just ground the heads of the rivets down. It took me about 3x's longer, but it is working. Ordering Panda Film ( or white/black poly ) and lining the inside this week. Then its onto wiring fans, socket and hopefully getting my soil recipe ready in the next couple weeks. Bone meal, bat guano, blood meal, rock phosphate, epson salt, sweet lime, azomite, etc and hopefully will have something in the ground before the end of the month - would love some Xmas presents!

Side note - anyone used the 1 gal smart pots in a micro grow before? Heard great things of them in larger applications, wondering if i'd be worth a shot.

As always, thanks for the good words everyone! More pics soon!

The top vents are 8cm and the bottom ones 12cm. Daylight I have 26-28 degrees temp and on night 20-21 (with 28-30 degrees by day in my room).

Finally got the internal cage out! That thing was an incredible chore, but like they say, nothing worth having comes easy.

I measured the inside of the box - looks to be 17 inches long by 8 inches deep by 22 inches tall. How many plants should I start with? Was thinking of 1 and just lst, scrog and let it go nuts haha.

Thanks,
Hornchen
