I wouldn't tend towards topping as a beginner. You need a bit of experience before going that route. Stick with the very basic and try to get your temperatures, RH, and feed schedule right. Depending on the medium you choose. I prefer soil myself, but I'm an experienced gardener somewhat, so YMMV.

1. Go buy a bag of foxfarm ocean forest ($20)
2. Buy an 8 qt bag of perlite ($7)
3. Put seed in shot glass of tap water for 1 hour.
4. Whatever you're planting into, confirm holes are at the lowest point so it can drain out.
5. Mix Perlite with fox farm in bag or cup. 50-50 is fine.
6. Plant seed into cup, pencil eraser deep.
7. Purchase spray bottle from dollar store.
8. Spray plant 3x every 3-4 days. At this point, youre good for a little while.
9. You will need to transplant into bigger pot and slowly increase water amounts before you need nutrients.
Nutrients suggestion:
Gaia Green grow and bloom. $30-40 I think on Amazon or nearby nursery.
Alaska Fish & MorBloom $20 at walmart/ HomeDepot.
Buy one or the other. You dont need both. Alaska stuff smells terrible. Both are organic.
You may want a root enhancer. Theres a million Mycorrhizae's around. I like Great white because it has trichoderma. I use Adnvanced Nutrients voodoo juice and Microbe munch as well.
Mosquito dunks & Neem oil are useful to avoid problems later. Read the label on neem and aim for a 5-10% concentrated solution. Only spray after lights out.

Id say the opposite id say its better to start with dirt vs coco as coco has to be kept wet hence more room for error with newbs and op id reccomend you read all u can before starting up tbh dirt is the easiest method imo its also got good buffering capacity that means more room for when you mess up with nutes you got more chance of it taking it alright also id say start with photo period plants as well same reason its more forgiving

Im sure you get it rolling everyone on here will help but just look around first before asking a question unless its time sensitive of course cos chances are its been awnsered alot in numerous threads before also on a side note you ever grew any plants not cannabis like anything ? Cos alot of those skills are transferable op
Did it from day one myself but like yourself i have plenty of gardening experience outside of canna its all relative just study it first if u aint so sure
