i have a pond that we stock with large mouth bass. We have over stocked and need to take out some to let others get bigger. Would it be wise to bury one chopped up fish in each hole that will be cooking with super soil. I plan to let it cook from now until next spring? It would also be burried about 2 feet deep. Any input?

I do a lot of fishing, and sometimes bury fish guts outside in the veggie/flower garden. Plants seem to enjoy it. Only problem is, it's pretty unpredictable how it's gonna work out. I would try it in one or two holes this season, and if it works, go for it.

I got the fish gut fertilizing tip from my dad, who studied horticulture, and also enjoys fishing.

To eat the fish..... or plant the fish......
So the plan is to chop up one 12" fish per hole. I have so many fish that I am just going to do it to every hole and see how it works out. As long as no one sees any neg. problems arise. This will be in my gorilla patch, so smell is not a prob or anything. Also I wont have plants in the holes for atleast 6-8 months from now so even if something digs a few up its not a big loss for me.

Sounds good to me I have herd of cannabis farmers in Afghanistan or maybe Iraq butting a dead fish under each plant to get its nutrients from and just added water forget where I readit but sounds like some tasty soil

There won't be any smell if you bury 2' down.

Bass are fun to catch, but they taste like mud, if you ask me. I'd say plant away.

This has good effects but does not last long. I buried 3 trout under 1 plant and 6 smallmouth bass, 3 under each of 2 more plants. After about 2 weeks They were much bigger than the plants around them(probably 8-12" taller). BUT after the 2 weeks they did nothing until I fed them.

You put the fish straight under the plants. No breakdown period for the fish or anything? Or did you let the fish break down then put the plants in the fish soil? I would think it would take much longer to break down than two weeks and last longer. I will have to see, but I hope it'll help longer than that.

Yes they are fun to catch! The only reason we stock our ponds is for fishing. I can fillet most fish, but bass are some boney mofos. I don't think I have ever eaten one from the pond, I'll have to take your word on tasting like mud.

I heard the native around here have been growing weed for years this way, and corn for that matter! 1 fish per plant! I doubt one fish would bring you there but to add it at the bottom of each hole then SS over top cannot hurt imo, if it's no good someone say something!!
