i don't have any smallie's in my part of the state, sucks so hard.. they do have them in the lake i always fish in maine though, but i've yet to catch anything other than large mouths there.. :(
aren't you near philly? lots of smallmouth bass in the delaware river. or at least there were 20 years ago. and upstream from philly closer to the delaware water gap/easton.

we used to use helgrammites to snatch those suckers up

yessir, but not that i'm aware of, at least not too close to me.. i could be wrong of course, but i've been fishing around here for a few good years, and all of the stuff i look at for local species usually doesn't show small mouth until you get probably above trenton or so in jersey..
f4ck, now i'm going to have to dig deeper into this, lol..

from what i remember, we used to clean up on smallmouth bass in rivers all along route 46 in upstate nj. i think the pequest fish hatchery used to stock the rivers every year. lots of nice little backwoods places to cast a line up there.

I've only ever caught two bass, both on worms

I have some '50s vintage bass lures that belonged to my grandpa but I've never fished with them

A kastmaster with a gamakatsu, or what ever brand you prefer, siwash replacement hook with a berkley gulp, or what ever brand you prefer, soft plastic minnow threaded on.

I swear I've never seen a lure look more like a small fish moving through the water. The soft plastic doesn't stay in place very well. I want get a pack of Owner center pin bait keepers to add to the eye of the hook. Figure those at the top of the hook and a bait button behind the bait and you're golden. It wouldn't be good for much but open water. You might get away with rigging it Texas style but it would probably kill the action quite bit.
