President Barack Obama will travel to Oregon this week to visit privately with families of the victims of last week's shooting at a community college.

However the trip has angered locals in Roseburg who say Obama is 'not welcome' in the town because the visit will be nothing but a 'grandstand for political purposes'.

Leading the chorus is David Jaques, the publisher of conservative newspaper the Roseburg Beacon.

'I think that's very inappropriate, and I think it's disrespectful to the families,' Jaques told Breitbart News.

Mediaite, Jaques accused Obama of wanting to 'stand on the corpses of our loved ones and make some kind of political point'.

Well, it sure hadn't stopped David Jaque's use of the same tragedy from doing his own grandstanding! At best, this could be called pot vs kettle. At worst, the man is doing what I've seen coming from the right more and more often lately; he's DOING what he's condemning others for doing!

Maybe he should open the dusty book on his desk known as the dictionary, and look up 'hypocrite'.

It sounded like the victims , city council members, police , firemen all spoke out and David Jaque's just reported the facts. I didn't see David grandstanding when I watched the video . Anyway I hope BarryO out of respect listens to the people and stays out of town.

Those are just the loudest people. What about the rest of the town's population? Do they need to demonstrate in front of the newsletter to get heard?

Funny, this sure doesn't look like 'not grandstanding' to me...

I believe we will see what the rest of the town thinks if he shows up. I believe he is dumb enough to show up . That part of Oregon leans red so maybe he will bus in the people he needs to support him from the bigger cities. We will find out soon.

It's okay if liberals live in conservative areas- they don't even need to give up their rights. I should know; I used to live in Texas.

Ya gotta love it when folks like this call out Obama for what he is - a self serving punk. I had to laugh watching his moment of "anger" in response to the massacre. Reminded me a kid acting out.

.....but some really are suckers for this phony shit.

BarryO looked phony thats for sure. If he choses to use force to get into the funeral I would not be surprised.

The sheriff refused to release the name of the murderer and told the world why. Good move!

And to think this limp dick President wants to spew his anti-gun message while a community is still grieving is disgusting.

It's funny, shitstains always try to convince people that they speak for many. I doubt that many people agree with the author of the article, not because they have a particular love of the president, but because the article's author is a shitstain.
So the shitstain happens to be a messenger, eh? Is that all you liberal shitstains have?

The message is spot on, and you know it. Here, I'll repeat it fer ya -
  • David Jaques says the visit is a 'grandstand for political purposes'
It is what it is. How many times has the Liar-in-Chief failed to show up for a decorated Marine's funeral?

After the Islamic State brutally beheaded American James Foley, Obama jumped right back onto the golf course, just minutes after addressing the nation. Similarly, within 24 hours of the attack that killed four Americans in Benghazi, Obama went to Las Vegas for a fundraiser.

Now, a day after the terrorist shootings in Chattanooga, Obama is heading to New York for a fundraiser and a Broadway musical.

Yep, nothing shows leadership, or expresses sympathy for the families who lost their Marine loved ones, like a good ol’ Broadway musical! To be fair, tickets to “Hamilton” are a hot item, so I’m sure Obama really had to work it to get those.

So while the nation comes to grips with Islamic terror hitting our home base yet again, and families prepare to bury their loved ones, Obama will be continuing along his merry way, singing his own happy tune. ‘Cause that’s just how he rolls.

You mean like how President George W. Bush didn't attend funerals either?

President George W. Bush was criticized in some quarters for not having attended the funeral of any U.S. soldier killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan or Iraq during his tenure in office, as noted by Andrew Sullivan in The New Republic:
There's a growing anti-Bush meme that holds that president Bush is a heartless chicken-hawk who wages war recklessly and cares not a whit for the welfare of the soldiers under his command.
Although it may be true in a strictly literal sense that President Bush attended no such funerals, the claim that he refrained from doing so because he callously "didn't care" is not so easily supportable.

In a July 2006 interview with the military newspaper Stars and Stripes, President Bush explained that since he could not possibly attend the funeral of every fallen U.S. soldier, he felt it was more appropriate to express his appreciation privately to service members' families rather than singling out one soldier (or a few soldiers) to honor with public funereal attendance by the president:
In an exclusive interview, Bush sat down with Stars and Stripes to answer questions solicited from U.S. troops now downrange, including the one asking whether he had ever attended a slain soldier's funeral.

President Bush has met hundreds of families of fallen soldiers, but he has yet to attend a servicemember's funeral, he said.

"Because which funeral do you go to? In my judgment, I think if I go to one I should go to all. How do you honor one person but not another?" he said.

The appropriate way to express his appreciation to the family members of fallen troops is to meet with them in private, he said.

And...

Recently, President Bush has been criticized for failing to attend the funerals of the soldiers killed in Iraq. Maureen Dowd noted sarcastically in a recent NYT column that the president had not even bothered to attend the funeral of Specialist Darryl Dent, a "21-year-old National Guard officer from Washington who died outside Baghdad in late August when a bomb struck his truck while he was delivering mail to troops," though the service took place at a church just "three miles from the White House."

Have presidents in the past attended the funerals of soldiers who died in combat? Have they taken note of the deaths of U.S. soldiers? The record is mixed, as can be seen below. It would appear that few presidents have ever actually attended military funerals, though many used the bully pulpit to draw attention to lives lost in the service of their country.

This is not about Bush, it's about Obama.

Stay focused.......
Stay focused: You criticize one President while lauding another one. Apply the same measure of criticism, Presidents very rarely attend US Service member funerals. Nixon didn't attend any funerals for Vietnam service men, Reagan attended like two funerals, Clinton just about the same, Bush 0, Obama however did attend Major General Harold Greene's funeral who was KIA in Afghanistan.
