Barney's farm update! Mutant strains aren't really mutants!

Hey all at riu, thought i'd contribute a small discovery i have recently made regarding a few of barney's farm strains that i've grown from seed. I've read and even posted numerous reports myself about the seemingly genetic mutations these strains grow with from seed. These mutations seem to be characterised by curly, kinky leaves, fan leaves with oddly shaped and numbered fingers, twisted or stunted growth and plants not representing the breeders descriptions until very late in the grow if at all regarding indica/sativa structure and leaves or comparing pics to those of the breeder. I currently have two pineapple chunks and three lsd's all at about three months from seed and all in one way or another displayed one of these mutations, i've got a midget lsd, a pc that looks and grows like a strawberry plant and everything inbetween. Recently after twiddling my thumbs waiting for these 'mutations' to grow out to no avail and not wanting to flip to flower until they looked bright and healthy i embarked on seeing if i could make a difference to what was happening. I tried everything remembering what i've learnt about different strains liking different nutrient strengths/brands, ph levels, temps and humidity. I messed with them in many ways, switched from dutch master to canna coco, hit them with liquid light, tried ro water you name it. It wasn't until a lightbulb moment 4 days ago when i realised that the only thing missing to complete the symptoms of mg def were rusty necrotic spots on the leaves so i mixed up a 20l barrel with a tsp epsom salts, my tap water at 330 ppm and canna coco, all loaded with calcium and magnesium to what i would imagine to be a dangerous level from experience, ppms of the mix were 1050, ph 6.0. Watered to run off and hoped for the best, i honestly expected bad burn or at least lockout. Checked the garden today and all my growth has exploded, no more canoe leaves, the fat indica leaves have thinned out as advertised, everything is fixed! They never looked better, maybe just mg whores?

My barney's farm Pineapple express auto's are ugly plants with ugly fan leaves. they start out looking like hands, 5 leaves for the longest, infact my plants are about 7 weeks old and still dont have their 7 finger leaves, they stop at 5 which is cool but seems almost unnatural. mutants, definitely. but mutations being good or bad, im not sure. on an added note, for a company as successful as barney's farm, im kinda disappointed they release their strains with such big imperfections, almost like they are sloppy, if they didnt smoke well i'd think they were bad but luckily they have some potent buds.

lol, they are some ugly plants until they start flowering, but some mutants are actually nice to have and show off, ive seen some mutants that have 3 giant indica leaves, totally safe to grow outside, even on your front lawn... until they flower.

interesting thread! one thing about barneys is they are fantastic plants but definitely not forgiving,
i trust barney's quality, hard for many strains to compete with their red dragon and laughing buddha. i havent personally experienced mutant strains but i haavent grown barneys since last year. but i noticed those two strains really liked being pumped with calcium and magnesium.

all of them seem to be nutrient whores, my pineapple express autoflower takes 3x the feeding regimen that my Dinafem fruit auto can handle.

My pineapple express auto's were exactly the same, ppm's hit 1600 towards the end. I feel like i finally figured out the secret to making these strains perform their best after seeing the difference in them over the last week of loading them up with cal and mag, hopefully the improvements and results can carry through to the end and produces some of the smoke barneys is renowned for

I bought tangerine dream seeds a few days after they came out, grew it out and had some very sativa phenos, beautiful plants, and yielded 12 oz off 6 plants easily.....there was I would says a solid QP of nugs that were very harsh smoke because it was so stemmy...more like long spindles with small amount of bud growing off, strangest thing I've ever seen....not overly impressed with the yield commercially but there was a solid batch of some potent nugs in there, very head high

Not so sure if I'll rush to buy any more of barney's genetics....

lol, pineapple express is absolutely not what they say in the description, becuase its like an autoflowering skunk, almost identical high. stoney but energized, strong even for autoflowing. barney's genetics are potent for sure. good medicinal quality since it helps insomnia easily.
