Baking with Soy Lecithin

Hello All,

Butter is in the fridge separating.

I was wondering at what stage in the baking precess do you usually add soy lecithin to your baking?

I was thinking of just putting a couple teaspoons in a whole recipe of cookies. Is that enough?

@fumble told me something like that before - but who remembers? hahah

Thanks for your help!

High Yessica :) I usually add it after the decarb, when I add the butter/oil/peanut butter etc to the weed and cook it. I have made two batches of cookies exactly the same, but added the lecithin (doesn't have to be soy, I am using sunflower) to one batch and not the other. The batch with the lecithin was more 'potent.' Not 'actually' more potent in strength, but in how much needed for same effect. Half of the cookie with the lecithin was comparable to a whole cookie without it. It may seem like a waste of time to some people, but it will make your goods go a lot further ;)

It seems like a waste of time to me becuse what lecithin does is exactly opposite of what we want

"In the pharmaceutical industry, it acts as a wetting, stabilizing agent and a choline enrichment carrier, helps in emulsifications and encapsulation, and is a good dispersing agent. It can be used in manufacture of intravenous fat infusions and for therapeutic use.

is an excellent emulsifier. In aqueous solution, its phospholipids can form either liposomes, bilayer sheets, micelles, or lamellar structures, depending on hydration and temperature."

sorry not in an explaining kind of mood today ^from wiki

now an emulsion doesnt help anything, we want it all dissolved in soloution- homogenous.it would be great in salad dressing though. we put it in a carrier to lower polarity and increase efficiency/uptake of the cannabinoids .
thc has a logp of about 7
In practice optimum colonic is 1.32, intestinal is 1.35, oral 1.8, Cns 2, percutaneous at 2.6 and sublingual 5.5
An encapsulation

Does not make use of this lowered polarity. Its effectively a bunch of little droplets.
Theres no scientific basis behind the use of lecithin or any other emulsion

Ive used it several times...

I know we differ on opinions of the use of lecithin Quizoking...I only know by actually doing and comparing the two, and it makes it to where you need less to do the same...as in only eating half of what you would of a cookie without the lecithin added. Not trying to buck the science of it, just what I have experienced myself.

Well theres no logical reason to use it. Chemistry says this will reduce bioavailability

I make hash pills regularly, with a relatively known and consistent mg content. Ive used lecithin..several times.

In fact i still have a batch from '11 just sitting around. Only plus for me is the color is nicer if im selling em, i normally give for free though..definitely arent more potent than the same pills without the lecithin.

Where did you hear about lecithin anyway?
What basis made you decide to try it?

Like I said, I only know from doing side by side trials. I learned a lot of the stuff from BadKittySmiles. I really don't care what the 'science' says. I know the results I get with and without. With is def better...and not more potent...you just need less to do the same. To each his own...as with all things ;)

I tend to agree that lecithin does not make any difference in end product efficacy for me. But obviously... results vary. :-)

My favorite these days is to just make my own variation of activated cannabis oil (RSO) and just cap a dab or five of that... LOL

I would also say whats the harm in trying both and see what you like or works best. A blind trial seems like a great suggestion. Give two days between tests for tolerance to return to normal. :-)

Thanks!

I have been told by a friend that he uses oil, and just puts a pin prick dab in homemade chocolates. I'm a little wary to try this method though, because I wouldn't know how to do the potency if I'm not actually cooking the butter from leaves/ flowers.

One day I'll grow a pair and try....hahahah

I always use oil, its more conrolled.
You can decarb it more accurately, and get you oil more potent. But most important you know exactly how much your extracting, and adding-the mg content. Less degradation occurs as well giving less of a sedative high as traditional edibles. Also it wont have all the chlorophyll and off flavor.

But if your uncomfortable doing extractions many people will tend to use high proof drinking alcohol, since its not being smoked you dont have to worry about oak tannins added sugars etc. But it also doesnt really need to ne purged

Well good luck
