Bagseed any good?

I have a nice pheno of White Widow, and I have 3 phenos of Grand Doggy Purps and I love all 3, all from bag seed.

I had herm issues the first 6 months of growing on all my plants, but I think it was more attributable to my growing skills and my setup more so than the bag seed genetics. They were throwing ball sacks in the lower areas that weren't getting much light penetration. I've rarely ever found a single seed though, let alone a bunch of them, in fact I'd like to find a few but haven't. After a lighting upgrade, some refinements on feeding them, better lollypopping and just getting better at growing they stopped throwing the sterile ball sacks.

Almost every forum post I read about herms said to cull them, but they were all I had so I let them go ball sacks and all, and they've been awesome. Now it's rare to see a single ball sack. In fact I'm interested in forcing them to throw some nanners to get some pollen to produce some seeds. I'd love to get a good cross of the White Widow and the Grandoggies that produces Grandoggy type smoke but with bigger buds. The Grandoggy Purps are always out of stock whenever I check so I couldn't order them if I wanted to and it's my favorite weed to smoke.

I'd say if your seeds came from good smoke there's a good chance they'll produce something nice and I think a lot of times the seeds you're buying have about the same amount of tendency to hermie on you as your bag seeds do, especially the feminized seeds. There are a lot of people who have had hermies with seeds they've purchased from seed banks, these boards are full of them.

I wish I had more bag seeds.
If you can sacrifice one, just stop watering it mid-flower. Most of the time plants will throw bananas when they get dried out (in soil at least) from my experience.

Thanks much for the tip, I'll give it a shot.
I had another thought that may work better and you wouldn't have to ruin a plant:

Stagger them.

Start the one you want pollen from and grow it out.

Start the other one several weeks later.

When the first is almost done, start flowering on the second

Let the first one go overripe and stop watering it. It will almost certainly throw a few bananas

Use them to pollinate the one that just started flowering, and then harvest the really ripe one

Grow out the pollinated one and get the seeds!

I have a Deadhead OG finishing up, it's a strong plant and super frosty, I would like to get some pollen from it too. What I think I'm going to do is harvest the tops but leave one main branch and the lowers and then let the pot dry out. I'll try to get some pics if I can get some nanners.

Good strategy - let me know how it works out!

You'll want to have a plant in early flowering that you can pollinate, so the seeds have enough weeks to mature

The chances of the genetics being good or stable are slim. Definitely invest in some seeds from a professional seed bank. Even if you happen to get a good one you'll only be able to clone it for a year and then the strain will be lost. If you buy professional seeds you'll be able to identify the strain and grow it again if you find a good one.

You can clone it indefinitely. It would be a mistake to not grow it.

So I left the whole bottom section of the plant to go a little longer to ripen up the lower buds along with a main branch, which I was putting a paper bag over at odd times for 3-4 hours... I'd let it get really dry, then I'd give it a little water so it didn't die. I got nanners on one of the scraggly bottom branches, not the one I was putting a bag over but just as well.

So I've harvested most of it and separated it from everything else, it's just under a CFL bulb now and I'm hoping it will throw more nanners. I've thrown a small Grandoggy Purps clone into flower that I'm going to attempt to pollinate with the Deadhead pollen. I'll probably put some on another Deadhead too. I also found a ripe looking seed coming out of a calyx on what's left of the Deadhead. I guess I need to put some paper on top of the soil or something in case it starts dropping pollen to catch it aye?

It only stays viable for a short time - if you can, pluck the nanners with tweezers and put them in a baggie. Then you can use a Qtip or paintbrush to get the pollen from the Baggie to what you want to pollinate. If you want lots of seeds you can put the bag over a big branch
