Bagseed any good?

If space and lighting are not issues (like growing outdoors) I would sprout any damned thing. In Alaska this guy gave my daughter one seed. This thing grew completely asymmetrical after the 3rd node like a dog's hind leg. When it flowered it smelled like garbage. I mean real garbage. Until about a week before it completed. Then it turned into Wrigleys Juicy Fruit gum odor! It was really good smoke too.

I didn't want to spend the money to buy seeds until I had all my equipment dialed in and that took a couple of runs. I started out with a seed that came in a bud of Vortex that I got from a dispensary. It grew very well. It turned out okay, but since those days, my technique has gotten much better….and I have now invested in some good genetics. So far so good.

Maybe it was Juicy Fruit?

A strain comes to mind gg4 what if that hermi went unnoticed or the grower said fuck and sold the seeded bud. Those would be in someone's bag and they would be asking the same question you are now.

Like I said. It's like rolling dice.

I start 12 seeds at a time. One is always a bag seed. I have a wealthy friend who travels all over and brings me a seed when he finds one. I have one going he got in Tahiti right now...I love mysteries. If it turns out to be a hermie, I'll get rid of it. Usually, they turn out just fine...what's the big deal?

i guess throwing it in with other plants wouldnt be so bad but putting all ur eggs in a baskett of bagseeds is kinda risky i wasted alooootttt of time and money on bagseed... feminized for me from here on out....

Yeah, I got some herms, too. It wasn't bad, though, but yeah…

I still like the chance on growing regular seeds because I'm always hoping to get that one, special pheno of something. Right now, I'm growing a strain called "Twizzler" and every parent in the cross is something I like -F1 Durban, GDP, Kosher Kush and Tangie!!! So, I figure than ANY phenotype will be at least worth a taste!

That's exactly what I'm doing now, if I can damn well get seeds over here... lol

I have had shite luck getting breeder seeds through customs. Last attempt was 3-4 years ago and just tried again recently. I am not religious... but I am praying daily to the weed gods that they make it through.

Bagseed is the shiz, if that's all you got :bigjoint:

Tell that to the dude who discovered the ChemDawg strain as bagseed

Herming can be caused by environmental stress, not just genetics. Even when a female plant stresses out and pollenates itself, the resulting seeds often don't produce male flowers unless stressed - as almost any cannabis plant will.

also i understand feminized seeds are more likely to herm under stress which is why i can say its 1000% not my enviroment

I'm lucky, I just go buy clones from a store. I'm also not in it for profit though.

However I have grown bag seed a LOT of times in my youth when I lived in less accommodating states, and never had high rates of herms with them

I have a nice pheno of White Widow, and I have 3 phenos of Grand Doggy Purps and I love all 3, all from bag seed.

I had herm issues the first 6 months of growing on all my plants, but I think it was more attributable to my growing skills and my setup more so than the bag seed genetics. They were throwing ball sacks in the lower areas that weren't getting much light penetration. I've rarely ever found a single seed though, let alone a bunch of them, in fact I'd like to find a few but haven't. After a lighting upgrade, some refinements on feeding them, better lollypopping and just getting better at growing they stopped throwing the sterile ball sacks.

Almost every forum post I read about herms said to cull them, but they were all I had so I let them go ball sacks and all, and they've been awesome. Now it's rare to see a single ball sack. In fact I'm interested in forcing them to throw some nanners to get some pollen to produce some seeds. I'd love to get a good cross of the White Widow and the Grandoggies that produces Grandoggy type smoke but with bigger buds. The Grandoggy Purps are always out of stock whenever I check so I couldn't order them if I wanted to and it's my favorite weed to smoke.

I'd say if your seeds came from good smoke there's a good chance they'll produce something nice and I think a lot of times the seeds you're buying have about the same amount of tendency to hermie on you as your bag seeds do, especially the feminized seeds. There are a lot of people who have had hermies with seeds they've purchased from seed banks, these boards are full of them.

I wish I had more bag seeds.
