Bad Ballast??

I have a 1000w switchable ballast hps/ mh , just started using the hps today, fired up great but about 2 hours later i came out and the light was off. the power was still on to the ballast, its humming, a tad warm. the bulb is brand new, i also put in the mh that i know works, and nothing... so i know i have power, plugs are secure, bulbs are good... so is it a capacitor or ignitor?

Did you wait long enough from powering off your ballast to trying the new bulb? Some ballasts have a built in kill switch that wont let power run through them unless theyre unplugged for a certain amount of time.

What kind of ballast? This happened to me, and during the change of my other ballast somehow some pins on my mechanical timer got half pushed in and when the timer hit the time, it would shut off and try to fire back up when it just shut off which won't work on my phantom ballast..

Power has been off for over 12 hours now, tried it again and still no lights, i know for a fact the bulbs are good. do you think its a blown capacitor?

did you switch it to the other setting? Because i know an hps bulb needs a starter and a mh doesnt. so if you havent switched it from mh to hps setting that could be it. I use digital ballasts so im not sure about if they have a switch or not.

If not it could very well be a blown capacitor. Id contact the manufacture ASAP and see if there is a warranty. There should be. If not and its completely broken id suggest shopping at HTG supply. Best prices and some of the best customer service out of any company ive ever dealt with. Not just growing supplies companies. Every company ive ever had a problem with a product or a warranty situation or questions on how to install something correctly. None have dealt with it with the speed and kindness of HTG. I will be repping them til death.
