Autos, when to switch from 600w MH to 1000w MH

My first auto grow. Fast buds, 4x4 tent, 1000w dimmable ballast, 6" exhaust fan, vented outdoors, 5 gallon soft pots, OF soil amended with perlite and myco.

I began these 8 days ago. I'm presently running a 600w MH bulb in the germination and early veg stage.
My plan is to switch to a 1000w MH bulb and also up the ballast to 1000w for the remainder of veg. Then switch to a 1000w HPS through veg.

So my question is at one point of veg canIMG_20231220_124634.jpgIMG_20231220_124634.jpg I safely switch to a 1000w MH. I don't want to do it too early for fear of cooking them.
Thoughts?

I have very little experience with HID lighting, but I think it's waaayyyyyy early to be thinking about giving them 1000 watts. Unless you've got it raised to the roof rails, I think 600 watts may already be giving them some issues. I'm terrible at diagnosing plants, but that could easily be bleaching on the leaves. How high above them is the 600 watt MH?

Not that mine are all that great looking, but they're in a 40x40 under a 315watt CMH that's always been at least 30" away. I think you may be cooking them a little.

As I said, been growing photos for some time, both indoors and out. But I always wanted to give autos a try so I could grow smaller batches of different strains.

You guys could be right. Now you got me paranoid. I just went upstairs and raised my light a foot.

I've been growing photos for years using 600w with good results. Are you saying autos are more light sensitive?
No bud I'm not saying that, if you've used a 600w and been getting results that's ideal.

I think you'll find raising the light makes a difference, they don't need a huge amount during the early stages.

So similar to my old set up. 600w MH 4x4 with autos from fastbuds.

I had my light around 3-4ft away and just let them grow into it.

Autos are not more light sensitive in veg but think. When they flower they’ll be getting 80% more light than the photoperiod! (If on 20/4 cycle)

This often leads to yellowed out fan leaves which is soooo typical to see in autos and not so much photos

Just realised I didn’t answer your question.

1000w may be overkill. You are giving them more hours so only the light penetration will benefit. Not the DLI.

I use to run MH right thru until harvest. I dare say it gave some of the nicest smelling bud I’ve grown. Yield was done but potency/flavour made up for it.

If I’m not mistake MH emits higher amounts of uvb

This is my result of that much light on babys to much …. And only 300 watt viper at 16 inches. Reduced light and in no time was ok
