From what ive heard the auto flower strain skips veg and goes strait from seedling to flower and harvest in about 70 days. I just ordered my lowryder seeds today, can wait to get them into some soiland watch the magic happen. You dont even have to change the light cycle. Ive heard 20-4 and 18-6 for lights through the whole grow

Autos veg for around 2.5-3wks and try to grow as much as possible and create as many bud sites as poss...By fimming, topping etc you will stunt the plant, and you want to avoid stunting autos, due to the fact they have a limited lifespan.
the more time they spend healing themselves the smaller the plants will be and as a result yield would most likely be diminished..
18/6 seems to work best for autos, they really love the 6hrs off.

frostythesnownug hit the nail on the head with his/her reply, and I want to add...don't harvest too early, many autos I've grown explode the final few weeks, so with a sativa auto (like Diesel ryder), you need to let em flower 65-70 days. The Low 2s and White Russians all did better for me when I went 60-65 days of flower. (I count the flowering days when the first buds appear!). Good luck with your grow and don't be afraid ask Q's if you need! protopipe1

Bo, your soil is ok not great but will do, just observe the plants for deficiences while they grow, as theyll prolly soon eat all the ferts in the light soil..
MH/HPS for veg, HPS for flowering...Home depot sell hps lights altho i dont think they do the 150w econolights anymore.

Word Proto, i let some of mine go from 65-85 days... all depends on the plants..Most breeders flowering times are BS, you can generally add another wk, some strains even more..
Basically there done when theyre done...just keep checkin the trichs.

Yes you are so right, it varies, and when I grew my first autos I had a crappy lttle hand held microscope thing, that I couldn't get a good view of anything. I bought the Eyeclops video microscope and it works great! I think that's why the autos got such a bad rap, because noobs were harvesting way too early, which you know affects both yield and quality!! p

I think the autos could have a future as an outdoor strain in areas with short growing season
